Low Engine Power In Your Car? These Are Some Likely Reasons

The power your car's engine is producing is important. When you step on the accelerator you need your car to accelerate, mainly to keep you out of trouble when getting onto the freeway or when pulling into heavy traffic. When your car was new it will typically have the best power it will ever have without doing modifications of some kind. Slowly the engine can lose a slight amount of power as the miles start stacking up which is normal. This is due to several factors such as piston ring wear which lowers compression and the contamination the mass air flow sensor which will provide a false reading to the car's computer. Other factors such as low fuel pressure or a partially plugged catalytic converter and a stretched timing chain can also attribute to low engine power as well.

These are likely symptoms of low power in a car

Sometimes it can be difficult to tell if your car is losing power if the problem is subtle. The illusion of low power might be apparent because many cars or passing you while heading on the onramp to the freeway or it seems like you are pressing down on the gas pedal a little more than usual. The truth be told if a slight amount of power is being lost it is difficult to tell. This is where the computer system of the car comes in.

Many times a check engine light will be on letting you know a malfunction of the electronics or an engine mechanical failure has occurred. Once a trouble code has been read troubleshooting the repair can take place restoring the engine power. A drastic reduction of power is much more noticeable and easier to detect. This condition may or may not catch the eye of the computer and may or may not turn the check engine light on.

For example; if the fuel pump is starting to fail and is not providing a sufficient amount of fuel pressure and volume the engine will have low power, but the computer will not know why. This is because all external support systems such as the exhaust and fuel delivery system are assumed systems which the computer cannot take into account for. Specialized computer scanners can display waveforms for the injector pulse and mass air flow reading but this information is only good when a normal baseline for such readings are available.

Low Fuel Mileage

When an engine is overcompensating for a mechanical, system or sensor failure it could use more fuel than usual. For example, if the weak fuel pump cannot deliver the correct pressure then the spray pattern of the injectors is compromised which in turn lowers the atomization of the fuel causing higher emissions and slower burn rates which lower piston thrust. Engine with high mileage can suffer from lower compression which will be compensated by a heavier application of the throttle which burns more fuel.

Porsche Celebrates 70 Years Of Excellence

Ever wondered why the Porsche car was such a unique car around the world and this includes Nigeria. The car was so unique that Nigeria's  Popstar Wizkid couldn't help but flaunt and sing about it, according to him, when he clashed his first Porsche when he got involved in an accident, he went to buy same month barely a few days later. Porshe as an auto company can be said as a firm who has had its fair share of the auto industry and they just can't keep mute when they clock 70.

In 1934, Ferdinand Porsche developed the perfect formula for a race car - a lightweight, rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive, teardrop-shaped car. First put into production as the Volkswagen Type 1 (later called the Beetle), this formula also led to the Type 356 - Porsche’s first ever street car. It took over 14 years and the efforts of Ferry Porsche to place the Porsche badge on an idea first dreamt up by Ferdinand Porsche.

From the get-go, Porsche cars proved their mettle on the track; Type 356 won the category in the first race it entered in 1948. The 911 - Porsche’s most iconic nameplate ever followed in 1963. Since its inception, the Porsche 911 has fascinated sports car enthusiasts from the world over and will continue to be a pioneer in the segment for the near future.

“Tradition is a commitment. Without our tradition and without our core values, we would not be where we are today. We plan to uphold the standard of technical excellence set by Ferry Porsche well into the future. Intelligent dynamic mobility has a great future ahead of it. And we have the solid technological expertise, creative employees and unique team spirit to be involved. We have what it takes to ensure that the Porsche brand continues to fascinate – even in another 70 years,” said Oliver Blume, chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.

The future of Porsche has been reviewed by the Mission E concept, but the technologies used in the sedan were first developed by Ferdinand Porsche as far back as the early 1900s. The Lohner-Porsche was the first series-hybrid, all-wheel-drive car to be ever made with hub-mounted electric motors - technologies which are being heavily invested into to make cars of the future.

Imagine A Car To Replace LASTMA And Police On Our Roads?

Imagine you commit a crime in any city in Nigeria and you were been chased an autonomous robot, not only that it arrests and issue you a ticket for your offense? Think no further as this is the next plan for all traffic offenders.

Will autonomous robots be the ones issuing arrests and tickets in the future? It’s not out of the question. Ford has officially filed for a patent on an automated police car. Now, this does not mean that an autonomous, artificially intelligent (AI) police vehicle will actually hit the roads — or even be fully developed. But it does show that such an idea is being taken seriously and could be a future possibility.

The autonomous police vehicle described by the patent would be able to detect violations made with other vehicles. It could do this entirely on its own but would also be capable of working with surveillance cameras and/or roadside sensors.

“Autonomous police vehicle may be trained or otherwise programmed using machine learning tools – deep neural networks – to find good hiding spots to catch violators of traffic laws.”

It is believed the motor cop will totally change the face of law enforcement around the world.

The AI police vehicle would be able to issue a citation or ticket, but it could take matters even further if it “decided” it was necessary. It could pursue and follow the offending vehicle, “remotely executing one or more actions,” as it is stated by the patent

Here are top 5 reasons why you may have to more for Lagos toll gates fees

This is a wake-up call to all Lagos residents to brace up for increment in toll gates across the state as from next week. Commuters who ply the Lekki-Ikoyi and Lekki-Epe expressways from February 1, 2018 will have to pay some additional fees according to the management of LCC.

According to the Managing Director of the Lekki Concession Company (LCC), Mohammed Hassan, the “current business realities and increasing cost of operation” means that the old rates will no longer apply.

The following are current rates at the Lekki toll gates:

Lekki - Epe toll gate

Cars--N120
Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs)--N150
Commercial buses--N80

Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge

Cars--N250
SUVs--N300
Commercial bus drivers aren’t allowed on the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge. The new rates are yet to be announced.

Here are five reasons why the old rates at the tolls will no longer apply from next week:

1. Stakeholders have approved the rate increase

According to Hassan, consultations with stakeholders on the proposed hike, went particularly well.
“Following extensive consultations held with stakeholders in the Eti-Osa/Lekki-Epe Expressway of Lagos State, the Lekki Concession Company Limited (LCC), has announced a review in toll tariffs at the Admiralty Circle Toll Plaza and the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge Toll Plaza with effect from Thursday, February 1, 2018,” Hassan said.

2. There has been no increase in toll fares since the gates were born

“Since the commencement of tolling in December 2011, the toll tariffs had remained the same despite the continuous increase in the cost of operations to ensure that the toll plazas and the road infrastructure are well maintained”, Hassan said.

 3. Hike is necessary so that LCC can pay off debts

In Hassan’s words: “The toll review has also become necessary to enable the company meet its loan obligations to its local and foreign lenders”.

4. The economic climate in Nigeria has become very tough

“The toll fare increase is as a result of current economic and business realities that have adversely increased the cost of operations and maintenance of the company’s loan obligations”, Hassan added.

5. Forex has shot up since 2011

“Foreign exchange rates have continued to increase astronomically in the last couple of years. LCC cannot continue to operate or provide the services required from us if we do not review the toll tariffs”, Hassan said.
____
The plan to hike toll fares was made public in November of 2017. However, the Lagos State government asked LCC to temporarily shelve the move.

Humans Not Witches Cause Road Crashes - FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has attributed most road crashes on Nigerian roads to human factors and not witchcraft as believed by some people in the country.

Sector Commander of the corps in Imo State, Mr. Joseph Aremu made this known in Owerri on Wednesday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The sector commander advised motorists in the country to always stick to traffic rules and obey all road signs.

Aremu said that contrary to the belief by some Nigerians that road crashes were due to manipulation of witches, major causes of most auto crashes were over speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and bad tires.

According to him, a driver will lose a sense of a judgment if he decides to drive under the influence of alcohol and when the right judgment is lost, the next result is auto crash.

The commander said that the corps in Imo were doing everything possible to ensure that road users stick to traffic rule, adding that the command will go tough on traffic offenders.

Aremu said that though road crashes had reduced in the state, the FRSC would continue to partner with relevant sister agencies and stakeholders to ensure that the road was safe for all.

50 Hearty Cheers to Peugeot 504 at 50!!!

Fifty years ago a car was launched that heralded the birth of the stylish, high-quality cars that Peugeot is famous for today.

The Peugeot 504 is a large family car manufactured by French automaker Peugeot between 1968 and 1983, with licensed production continuing until 2006.

The Peugeot 504 is a mid-size, front-engine, rear wheel drive automobile manufactured and marketed by Peugeot for model years 1968-1983 over a single generation, primarily in four-door sedan and wagon configurations — but also with two-door coupe, convertible and pickup truck variants.

The 504 was noted for its robust body structure, long suspension travel, and torque tube drive shaft — enclosed in a rigid tube attached at each end to the gearbox housing and differential casing, relieving drive train torque reactions. The 504 ultimately achieved widespread popularity in far-flung rough-terrain countries — including Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Benin, Kenya and Nigeria.

More than three million 504s were manufactured in its European production, with production continuing globally under various licensing arrangements — including 27,000 assembled in Kenya and 425,000 assembled in Nigeria, using knock-down kits — with production extending into 2006.

Having debuted as Peugeot's flagship at the 1968 Paris Salon, the 504 received the 1969 European Car of the Year. In 2013, the LA Times called it "Africa's workhorse.

Corbelli Missile: The World's Fastest Car

The Corbelli ‘Missile’ is a hypercar that aims to write history. Created by the Corbellatis, a family of artists and designers, for their latest art project, they are collectively building a 9.0 V8-engined hypercar that can produce 1,800 hp, with a top speed over 500 km/h (310 mph).

For now, there is only a set of preview photographs available of theCorbellii ‘missile’. The hypercar measures 4.67 meters long, and 2.04 meters wide, and almost every component is made out of carbon fiber. The ‘world’s fastest car’s’ design is reminsicent of the iconic Ferrari ‘P4’, and the Ginetta ‘G40’ track car. The ‘missile’ is powered by a 9.0 liter bi-turbo V8 engine that sends 1,800 hp and a monstrous 2,350 Nm of torque to the rear wheels.

The sheer power combined with the high downward pressure must, according to the Italian-automaker, be sufficient to reach a top speed over 500 km / h (310 mph), which would shoot it above the Koenigsegg ‘Agera RS’, and the Hennessey Venom ‘F5’, in it’s bid to claim first place for speed.
