This Rolls-Royce Phantom Has A Twin-Charged 2JZ

Just as Emeka, the spare parts seller will say, Nna, this one na machine, same can be said of this Rolls Royce

The 6.75-liter V12 engine found in the previous-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom is one of the most refined, smoothest and quietist internal combustion engines ever conceived, perfect for a luxury car like the Phantom.

However, when the engine of a Japanese owner’s Phantom went kaput, he decided against finding another Rolls V12 and instead went for one of the tuning world’s favorite engines, the 2JZ made famous by the Toyota Supra.

The six-cylinder engine has been comprehensively modified with HKS forged internals and supplemented by a GReddy T78 turbo and a HKS supercharger. All told, the crazy engine delivers a more-than-sufficient 900 hp, all sent to the rear wheels via a strengthened transmission.

The tuning shop appears to have done a neat job of fitting the engine but some rather tacky gauges are now found in the cabin. Nevertheless, there’s no doubt that this Phantom could outsprint everything to come out of the Rolls-Royce factory.

2018 Nissan 370Z Coupe Undergoes Changes

In production since 2009, the Nissan 370Z is one of the oldest sports cars on the market.

Still, the automaker believes that it's not time to replace it just yet, so they have slightly updated it for the 2018MY.

Visually, the fixed-roof model now benefits from standard tinted lights, front and rear, a combo that was previously available on the Nismo, in addition to black door handles, black rear bumper fascia, and new 19-inch alloy wheels. Rounding up the list of exterior changes is the introduction of a new Red Metallic paint.

Despite retaining the 3.7-liter V6 engine that delivers 328PS (323hp) to the rear wheels, through a six-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission, the 2018 Nissan 370Z Coupe has now welcomed a new high-performance clutch. Developed by Exedy, it's only available on the stick shift version, and is said to "perfect the downshift" by "reducing driver pedal effort" and "delivering greater levels of gear change precision and comfort".

One last novelty for the 2018MY is the NissanConnect Premium infotainment system, with its 7-inch touchscreen display, satellite navigation, DVD player, and reversing camera, which can be had as an optional extra.

Nissan says that the 370Z Roadster and 370Z Nismo remain on sale without the 2018MY upgrades.

MINI Releases New Electric Concept

MINI has taken the wraps off its new Electric concept.

Set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Electric concept was designed to appeal to city dwellers and offers a "window into how pure-electric day-to-day mobility might look in the years ahead."

Looking like a futuristic MINI Cooper, the concept features a unique grille which is flanked by LED headlights and a sporty front bumper with "simulated air intakes.”

The racy styling continues further back as designers installed flush-mounted door handles and fiberglass side skirts. There are also distinctive 19-inch wheels which have aerodynamic inlays that were created by using a 3D printer.

The rear end is slightly more conventional as it boasts a tailgate-mounted spoiler and a fiberglass diffuser. MINI's British origins are also on display as the concept has bespoke LED taillights with Union Jack accents.

Motivation is provided by an electric powertrain which uses a "powerful" motor. There's no word on specifications but MINI says the concept is responsive and delivers a go-kart feeling.

The fact that the concept looks nearly production ready shouldn't come as much of a surprise as the company reaffirmed its commitment to launch a new electric vehicle in 2019. As BMW AG Chairman Harald Krüger explained, "The MINI Electric concept offers a thrilling preview of the all-electric production vehicle."

Signs That Your Car Needs An Auto Tune Up

It’s easy to get frustrated when your car doesn’t quite work the way it’s supposed to. When your car does something funny or unwanted, it's a possible indicator that there is a deeper problem.

You can save yourself some time and a headache by being familiar with common warning signs, and by always taking it into the shop when something comes up. Consider some of the most common indicators, listed below.

Warning Signs: When Your Vehicle Needs a Tune Up

Engine lights come on.
It’s always distressing to see those little check engine lights illuminate your dashboard and you may be tempted to ignore them. But those lights come on for a reason. It’s the car’s diagnostic system alerting you to a pressing maintenance issue. When the lights come on, it’s in your best interests to take the vehicle in for prompt servicing.

Stalling.
Ever press your foot on the pedal to accelerate, and the car just lags there for a moment before finally starting to move? This stall could be a warning sign, and it’s not something you want to ignore; if nothing else, stalling is dangerous in and of itself.

Fuel economy.
Pay attention to how often you’re filling up at the pump. If you suddenly start needing to fill up more often, diminished fuel efficiency might be a negative side effect. That’s reason enough to take the car to the shop and see what’s going on.

Brake problems
Any problem with your brakes is a safety concern and something to investigate right away. Brake problems come in a variety of forms, and in some cases it’s as simple as a brake pedal that feels soft or spongy. Also be aware of noisy brakes. Whining or scraping sounds are common symptoms of a failing brake system.

Rough shifting.
Your car’s automatic transmission system should handle the gear-shifting process pretty smoothly. If you find that you’re suddenly getting lurched around by the shifting, that might mean there is a transmission issue.

Vibrations or shaking.
If braking, steering, or starting your vehicle causes a wobbling or shaking sensation in the steering wheel or in the seat, there could be any number of issues. Best to get it investigated by the professionals!

The bottom line is that if something unusual starts to happen with your vehicle, you need to take it to an auto care professional to get a proper diagnosis. You’ll want to make an appointment for an auto tune-up and get things taken care of before they get out of hand.

Things Your Car May Not Need

Tune-up - The tune-up has been obsolete for decades. On late model vehicles with computerized engine controls, there is nothing to "tune" or manually adjust. Major engine functions such as idle speed, the fuel mixture and spark timing are all controlled electronically by the powertrain control module. In spite of this, many people still call changing their spark plugs and air filter a tune-up, when in fact what they are actually doing is scheduled preventive maintenance. Platinum and iridium spark plugs typically last upwards of 100,000 miles, and air filters can often go several years or 30,000 miles or more depending on driving conditions and dust exposure.

Chassis Lubrication - Some trucks may have grease fittings on the ball joints, tie rod ends and U-joints. The same goes for some heavy-duty aftermarket replacement ball joints, tie rod ends and U-joints. But on most late model cars and light trucks, the original equipment steering, suspension and drivetrain joints are all sealed for life and do not require any lubrication or service.

Fuel Filter - Replacing the fuel filter every few years or 30,000 to 50,000 miles may be recommended for preventive maintenance, but many motorists have never had a fuel filter replaced! Unless you get dirt or rust in your fuel tank, the fuel filter should last for years or tens of thousands of miles. Many late model cars and light trucks no longer even have a recommended fuel filter replacement interval. Instead, they have a "lifetime" fuel filter located inside the fuel tank as part of the fuel pump assembly. Unless your vehicle is experiencing a fuel delivery problem, therefore, there is no need to replace the filter.

Wheel Alignment - Accurate wheel alignment is essential to minimize tire wear and to keep your vehicle traveling straight. If your vehicle has been experiencing unusual tire wear, your wheels may need to be aligned. But if the tires are wearing normally and your car steers straight with no pulling toward either side, there should be no need to have the wheels aligned. Most tire stores recommend a wheel alignment check when you buy new tires. But if your old tires do not show abnormal wear and they lasted at least 60,000 miles, chances are your wheels are still in alignment. Once set, wheel alignment should not change unless steering or suspension parts are worn or damaged.

Engine Flush - An engine flush circulates a cleaning chemical through the engine to remove sludge, varnish and other contaminants. If you have neglected regular oil changes and your engine is full of sludge, this would be a recommended service. However, if you have changed your oil regularly, and your engine shows no signs of abnormal deposit formation, there should be no need to have your engine flushed.
