Some few days back, we did an update into the ongoing construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge. Even though there are still some doubting Thomases who still claimed and doubt the progress of the work despite all the images available to their disposal to verify.

The company handling the project, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has released a progress report of the ongoing construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge. The new images released were more explicit, detailed and show the real progress with a date attached to the pictures so that no one will doubt the authenticity of the images and time.

The company said the project is expected to be completed by February 2022, adding that the scope of works includes the construction of 1.6km long bridge, 10.3km highway, Owerri interchange and a toll station.

These Are What You Need To Know On The Executive Bill On Open Defecation That President Buhari Signs

President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday signed Executive Order 009 entitled, The Open Defecation-Free Nigeria by 2025 and Other Related Matters Order.

The Order declares as follows:

1.      That by this Order, Nigeria is committed to being open defecation free by 2025.

2.      That the National Open Defecation Free (ODF) Roadmap developed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources with support from other key sector players across Nigeria be put into effect.

3.      a.      There is established in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources a National Secretariat called “Clean Nigeria Campaign Secretariat”.

          b.      The Secretariat is authorized on behalf of the President to implement this Order by ensuring that all public places including schools, hotels, fuel stations, places of worship, market places, hospitals and offices have accessible toilets and latrines within their premises.

4.      All Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government shall cooperate with the Clean Nigeria Campaign Secretariat.

5.       The National Assembly and the State Houses of Assembly shall enact legislation on the practice of open defecation with appropriate sanctions and penalties.

6.      All development projects shall include construction of sanitation facilities as an integral part of the approval and implementation process.

7.       The Secretariat shall terminate when Nigeria is declared Open Defecation Free.

8.      All enforcement authorities are hereby directed to diligently collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in implementing this Order.

The Executive Order 009 came into being against the background that:

Nigeria is ranked second amongst the nations in the world with the highest number of people practising open defecation estimated at over 46 million people – a practice which has had a negative effect on the populace, and has contributed to the country’s failure to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs);

President Buhari had described the statistics on open defecation and access to pipe-borne water service and sanitation as disturbing, and had declared commitment to implement the National Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Action Plan;

The President had declared a State of Emergency on Nigeria’s water supply, sanitation and hygiene sector, the action being imperative as it will reduce the high prevalence of water-borne diseases in different parts of the country which have caused preventable deaths;

Nigeria has committed to end open defecation throughout the country by 2025 in consonance with her commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);

This Executive Order takes effect from Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

An Update Into The Lagos Light Rail Projects: The Sights, The Feels And The Vibes

The Lagos Light Rail Project may go in history as the longest time ever taken to complete a rail in Africa and even if possible in the world. Its almost getting to 13 years and nothing tangible can be said of this project. The contractors are still at Eko Bridge battling with the pillars while the ones at Orile, Mile 2, Iganmu are been taken over by hoodlums and street traders.

The Lagos Rail Mass Transit is an urban rail system being developed and under construction in Lagos. The system is being managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and is envisioned to consist eventually of seven lines. The railway equipment including electric power, signaling, rolling stock, and fare collection equipment will be provided by the private sector under a Concession Contract. LAMATA is responsible for policy direction, regulation, and infrastructure for the network.

The first section of the network, Phase I of the Blue Line, was originally planned to be completed in 2011. After many delays caused by funding shortfalls, the opening date was revised to 2022.

The mass transit rail project called the Blue Line awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation had suffered many delays due to the paucity of funds and other challenges. The Lagos Light Rail started 2008, same time Ethiopia started its railway and so far, they have been at the same location for the past four years.

For some of us who ply through Eko-Bridge, Leventis and Apogbon area regularly, you must have noticed some giant beams which are built close to the main bridge. The bridge belongs to the Lagos Light Rail, this is the carriage for the train that will stop at CMS.

In an exclusive reportage monitored by AutoReportNG, we took a trip from Idumota all through the location of this construction to see how they were working and we can report that work is truly on-going but at a slow pace. The spokesman of CCECC while talking on CCTV News said the challenges they are having with the bridge has to do with the strong current and waves from the ocean. According to him, the waves are strong that they wash anything they placed on it, he said, they were only able to work for 20minutes in a day. The waves are calmer during the evening period which they had to rush to quickly work before night comes.

AutoReportNG observed that some of the infrastructures that are already completed like those in Mile 2, Orile, Iganmu are already decaying, some have turned to a hideout for criminals as no one uses them save for mad people who have turned the place to home. Orile, for instance, has turned to a place where the miscreants sleep at night, the under bridge has to turn to refuse dumb among others. Even those at Ijora Olopa en route CMS are still there with nothing going on with them.

It will be recalled that in August 2018, LAMATA signed an agreement with Alstom. As a part of the agreement, Alstom has conducted a review of the rail lines. After the review of the rail project, which should have initiated passenger activity, the state government said the Blue Line, would now be ready for passenger operation by 2022. This deal also plans for the electrification of a portion of the track.

Now that Lagos has a new governor, we hope this will be taken care of as soon as possible and also be a major front burner for him but it seems Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu might not be ready to shoulder the weight of the Lagos Light Rail at least for now.

These are some of the images we got from our tour right from the spot at Eko Bridge close to Leventis at CMS.

Air Peace Acquires 3 New E195-E2s Embraer Aircraft, Becomes First Airline In Africa To Own Such - PHOTOS

Air Peace, Nigeria and West Africa’s largest airline, has signed a contract with Embraer for three additional E195-E2s, confirming purchase rights from the original contract, signed in April this year. The airline also made its debut appearance at the 2019 Dubai Airshow on Sunday, November 17, 2019.

These new E195-E2s will be included in Embraer’s 2019 fourth-quarter backlog and have a value of USD 212.6 million, based on Embraer’s current list prices.

Set to be the first E-Jets E2 operator in Africa, Air Peace’s firm order, announced in April this year, is now for 13 E195-E2s with 17 purchase rights for the same model. The first delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.

“The E195-E2 is the perfect aircraft to expand our operations in Africa and this new order is a further confirmation of our ‘no-city-left-behind initiative which we shall continue to execute”, said Air Peace Chairman/CEO, Mr Allen Onyema.

He added, “We are receiving impressive data about the aircraft’s economics now that is in revenue service, and this was a driver to place this new firm order with Embraer. We look forward to receiving our first aircraft, which will enhance connectivity in Nigeria and the African region while feeding long-haul flights from our Lagos hub.” from our Lagos hub.”

Air Peace subsidiary, Air Peace Hopper, started operating six ERJ145 jets last year on short thin routes. That experience with Embraer’s products and services, including the pool programme, and the undeniable economic benefits of right-sizing aircraft for the mission, was a key factor in selecting the E2.

Air Peace’s E195-E2s will be configured in a comfortable dual-class arrangement with 124 seats. Air Peace operates more than 20 local, regional, and international routes and has strategic plans to expand those routes.
