See Porsche’s Cayenne Cabrio And Other Official Prototypes You Never Knew Existed

When Porsche is mentioned, what comes to mind is opulence, luxury, and class. In Nigeria, you can count the number of people who have this brand of cars as they are scarce and very pricey.

From the secret chambers of Porsche’s Research & Development department come a whole bunch of prototypes that helped pave the road for some of today’s iconic cars.

As luck would have it, the German automaker has chosen five of them to detail on film, starting with the Porsche 984, a compact, lightweight and aerodynamic roadster.

It tipped the scales at 880 kg (1,940 lbs), had a 135 PS (133 hp / 99 kW) engine, and could reach 220 km/h (137 mph). Its sole purpose was to achieve dynamic driving characteristics with low driving resistances, rather than using a powerful engine.

Based on the first-gen Cayenne is the Porsche Cayenne Cabrio. It had a Targa roll bar, which the automaker calls “a distinctive design feature”, and came with not one, but two different rear end designs.

Obviously, the Porsche Cayenne Cabrio never made it into production, but neither did the 1987 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster. This one had an open single-seat layout and a plastic covering for the cockpit – evocative of the 550 Spyder of the 1950s.

The Porsche Panamericana, on the other hand, was made in 1989 as a present for Ferry Porsche. The design was completed in just a few months, and it came with a zip-roof that was stored in the trunk. This prototype had 250 PS (246 hp / 184 kW) available on tap, and could reach 210 km/h (130 mph).

Porsche saved the #1 position for a very special prototype, one that basically paved the road for one of the brand’s most iconic models ever. It came with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and was shown to a handful of journalists in 2012, who got the chance to experience it first hand as well. Lady Dumps Boyfriend After Discovering His Porsche Cayenne is Actually China-Made

Just recently, a young lady met a guy at a social gathering and it was love at first sight – after she saw his Porsche Cayenne. Within two weeks, the lady had reportedly slept with the guy. However, it was later discovered that the Porsche Cayenne is not actually a genuine Porsche, but a knock-off version.

According to ET Today, the lady was attracted by the guy’s personality and his luxurious sports utility vehicle (SUV). The latest market price of a Porsche Cayenne could cost anywhere between $61,000 and $80,000, depending on the specs. Despite owning such an expensive car, the guy seemed down-to-earth and humble.

He wore shirts purchased from Taobao, which cost about 100 Yuan that's about 5700 naira and he only visited regular food stalls when they were on dates, the lady said. “In my opinion, it’s rare to see a rich guy who is so humble like him. I started to develop feelings for him,” she said.

Their relationship soon bloomed and within two weeks, the lady had slept with the guy for 17 times! Everything was going well for the couple and she would always update her friends with pictures. Not sure if she’s trying to show off or what… One day, she sent pictures of her boyfriend’s Porsche Cayenne to her friends in their group chat and was shockingly told that the car wasn’t a Porsche Cayenne.

In fact, it was apparently a China-made car that has a remarkably similar resemblance to the luxury German SUV. “My friend’s boyfriend used to own a Cayenne, and he said this isn’t a Porsche,” the lady said. Here’s her boyfriend’s ‘Porsche Cayenne’…

Startled by this new-found fact, she couldn’t digest it and even argued that there were Porsche logos all over the car. Her friend then enlightened her, explaining that those logos can actually be bought on Taobao, and that her boyfriend’s car is actually a Zotye SR9, which costs between 100,000 Yuan and 150,000 Yuan (5.7million -8.5million naira)

Clearly the lady didn’t pay attention to the letters on the logos either, because it was written ‘Zhongtai’, instead of ‘Porsche’ on them.

Porsche Celebrates 70 Years Of Excellence

Ever wondered why the Porsche car was such a unique car around the world and this includes Nigeria. The future of Porsche has been reviewed by the Mission E concept, but the technologies used in the sedan were first developed by Ferdinand Porsche as far back as the early 1900s. The Lohner-Porsche was the first series-hybrid, all-wheel-drive car to be ever made with hub-mounted electric motors - technologies which are being heavily invested into to make cars of the future.

Porsche set to displace Tesla rival supercar with Mission E (Photos)

Porsche first revealed its plans to release a Tesla rival sports car back in 2015, and we can now reveal that it is likely to release three electric all-wheel-drive versions as early as 2019. According to the automobile, the German-automaker will launch three ‘Mission E‘ derivatives with 300 kW (402 hp), 400 kW (536 hp) and 500 kW (670 hp). It will feature a two-speed transmission and reach 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, with a maximum speed of 155 mph (249 km/h).

Porsche all-electric ‘Mission E’ will boast an acceleration time of just 3.5 seconds from 0 to 60 mph, which is a full second slower than the quickest tesla ‘model S’ currently on the market. the four-seater will feature inductive charging (without a cable) and it could reportedly charge to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. Details have yet to be revealed on exterior styling, however, dimensions-wise it appears to be similar to the German automaker's ‘Panamera‘ sports car, with an elongated profile to accommodate two passengers in the rear. Back seat occupants can enter through rear-hinged coach doors, opening up to create a dramatic passageway to its luxurious interior.

Porsche Recalls Nearly All 2003-06 Cayennes Over Fuel Leak

Porsche is recalling the Cayenne over a potential (but apparently minor) fuel leak.

The recall, announced by the manufacturer, affects an estimated 50,145 vehicles in the United States from the 2003 to 2006 model years.

Given that Porsche sold a total of 55,210 examples of the Cayenne in the United States in those four years, the campaign would ostensibly affect nearly all the vehicles sold during that period.

The problem comes down to the fuel pump filter flange, which could develop hairline cracks “after extended usage and time.” As a result, “a very small quantity of fuel might seep out causing a fuel odor.” There's no mention, however, of any risk of a fire igniting, as is typically the danger with fuel leaks.

Dealers are being instructed to replace the fuel filter flange on those affected vehicles, in a process which is estimated to take about an hour and a half on each vehicle. That amounts to over 75,000 hours of work. In other words, if just one technician were to undertake all those repairs alone, it would take him (or her) eight and a half years of working around the clock, seven days a week, without break, to complete them all. Fortunately Porsche has more authorized mechanics in America to share the workload.

As Kenny Blaq the popular comedian normally says, when you are big, you are big. Such can be said of Porsche 99 GT2 RS which was a sold out even before it hits the stores. This will be a bad news for the prospective buyers of the upcoming 911 GT2 RS, as Porsche has reportedly already sold the entire production run. The new king of the 911 range was always going to be offered in limited numbers, but so far we didn’t know exactly how many of them would hit the roads. Auto Bild reports that the new GT2 RS will be produced in 1,000 examples, all of which are already spoken for.

Porsche traditionally reserved the GT2 RS moniker for the big daddy of each generation of the 911. The recipe is simple enough: take a 911 Turbo, give it more power, an extreme aero agenda and the most hardcore of chassis components and, as a final touch, revert it back to rear-wheel drive to get the adrenaline flowing.

The new 911 GT2 RS has already made an unexpected public debut during the Forza Motosport 7 event, revealing for the first time its final production silhouette. No information was given about what’s hiding underneath its race-car bodywork, but according to the latest reports, Porsche is going to honor the Widowmaker nickname with some serious numbers.

The twin-turbo 3.8-litre flat-six engine will make 700PS (690hp) and 553 lb-ft (750Nm) of peak torque and is mated exclusively to a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. The 0-62mph (0-100 km/h) sprint will take only 2.9 seconds, with the top speed set at 212mph (340km/h).

The first cars will be delivered this autumn and prices start at around €260,000 in Germany ($289k in current exchange rates). That's about 91.1 Million Naira
