Sanwo-Olu Visits Olusosun Dumpsite - Photos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State today visited the Olusosun dump site in furtherance of his pledge to improve the environmental situation as contained in the first Executive Order on Environmental and Sanitation Matters signed recently.

Speaking during a visit to the dumpsite, alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the Governor said: “we are here today to validate the Executive Order we signed. This is where we receive 70 per cent of the waste in Lagos. The facility is 28years old so we want to ensure that it can receive waste for the next 23years’’, he said.

The Governor expressed the possibility of the return of the monthly sanitation exercise after consultations with various stakeholders.

“We are going to ask Lagosians if they want us to return the three-hour monthly sanitation exercise to ensure that we have a cleaner city. Though I have my own view, we will still ask Lagosians,” he said.

He also disclosed the plan to expand the dumpsite to accommodate more waste, saying: "We want to expand the facility to 42 acres so that trucks can have a quicker turn around time".

Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the building under construction at the entrance of the site would be used to train and retrain the staff and create more jobs for the people, adding that the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) would be strengthened to collect recyclable materials necessary for the creation of more jobs.

He expressed confidence that the revenue derivable from waste will be properly harnessed to make life more meaningful to the people of the State.

Sanwo-Olu Arrests A Danfo Driver Driving Through One-Way on Eko Bridge - Photos

While some governors are yet to resume for duty in their respective states, some are still basking in the euphoria of being in power but in Lagos, the man in charge has resumed work and he is not joking all...

We may likely be seeing an action governor at work if what feelers in the political terrain of Lagos are to be taken seriously by the way. It's no news that Lagos state has a new governor but what still remains news is the way the governor has demonstrated and take charge of situations within the last 24 hours.

Rounding off his inspection at Mile 2-Apapa road yesterday, the governor decided to pass through Eko Bridge where there was massive traffic on the other side but trust our dear danfos to always be in hurry, one was unfortunate that he passed the one-way when the governor's convoy was passing by. Mr. Sanwo-Olu stopped the convoy and order for the arrest of the man and his bus. According to him, his administration will not tolerate any sort of indiscipline and breaking of traffic laws across the state.

We at AutoReportNG wish Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his team well as they take over the leadership of the city of aquatic splendor.

Trucks Back To Ikorodu Road Following Sanwo-Olu's Visit To Apapa - Photos

Following the Presidential directive for the evacuation of trucks and trailers from Lagos roads of which a Presidential committee was charged with carrying out the responsibility, the committee gave a 72 hours ultimatum to trucks and trailers operators to be on queue to move into the Apapa ports and leave the bridges and roads which has been converted into vehicle park, creating traffic gridlock and constituting a nuisance to other road users.

Of note is the success recorded with the evacuation of the trucks and trailers from Ikorodu road and Eko bridge at the expiration of the 72 hours ultimatum on Sunday 26th May, 2019. While the committee was about moving to the Apapa Mile 2 axis, the Ikorodu road and Eko bridge suffered a relapse of trailers and trucks reemergence in the last 12 hours as a result of the blockade of the roads into the Apapa port as a security measure for the physical inspection of the Apapa ports area and environs by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat and security chiefs yesterday Thursday 30th May, 2019.

Consequent upon the blockade of the roads by the security agencies for hours which prevented the trucks from accessing the Apapa ports easily like they have been doing in the last 96 hours following the Presidential committee evacuation of impediments to the ports, the resultant effect of that security blockade is the emergence of trailers and trucks back on Ikorodu road from National stadium Surulere all the way to the Costain/Apapa road Ebute Metta axis of the Eko bridge since last night of Thursday 30th May, 2019 as shown in the images attached till this morning of Friday 31st of May, 2019.

The Presidential committee is resolved and working round the clock to ensure that the trucks and trailers are evacuated from the Ikorodu road and Eko bridge where they have suddenly reemerged as well as on the Apapa Mile 2 Oshodi expressway corridor where they have locked down Lagos traffic and constituted public nuisance within the shortest possible time, while calling for the support and cooperation of Lagosians in carrying out the Presidential directive to the latter within the stipulated 2 weeks.

The patience and understanding of the motoring public is highly appreciated in making Lagos roads and bridges free of parked trailers and trucks and the Apapa ports accessible for the ease of doing business.

The issue of containers and trailers has been a source of concern to both the federal government and the state government that despite the presidential order that mandated them to vacate the road, some are still heady and refuse to leave, these are reasons we continue to have gridlock around Ijora, Apapa and Mile 2 axis.
