Visionscape Distributes New Waste Bins To Homes And Offices

After the furor by residents over the state of filth in the state, VisionscapeGroup, a Dubai-based company, contracted by the Lagos state government has eventually swung into full action to clear the heaps of filth that have pervaded the State for a couple of months now.

I sighted them distributing refuse bins around Festac/Amuwo Odofin axis and took these pictures.
Some women, thinking I was an official of the company, expressed their dismay to me at the proximity of the waste bins to their houses and stalls, and I advised them to channel their complaints to the right quarters.

I hope the Amuwo Local govt chairman or its officials would see this post and help look into the grievances of these women. Their apprehensions are well founded.

Reasons Why Lagosians Hate Using The Pedestrian Bridges

Welcome to Lagos, the center of aquatic splendor. Lagos is home to more than 18 million people and this includes Nigerians, foreigners and lots of different folks. It is estimated that more than 5000 new people come into Lagos daily and so there have been challenges to keep the city in shape and maintain its uniqueness. AutoReportNG went around the city of Lagos to observe and experience some first-hand experience on why Lagosians don't like using the pedestrian bridges despite all the resources the state government has put to use to make life easier for all users.

1. Lagosians are always in hurry
A popular song of the late music maestro, Fela Kuti says on Monday morning, Lagos has no time for nonsense. A detailed investigation has shown that Lagosians were always in hurry to get to their destination, therefore, they break all norms by crossing the expressway. We caught up with someone who crossed the Ojota expressway and asked him why he prefers crossing the road rather than using the bridge, according to him, using the bridge may take me 5-10 mins and I can cross the road within 2-3 mins I am done, so no time to waste time.

2. Health challenges
We have lots of road users and this is not restricted to age and sex, we noticed that among people who preferred crossing the highway are mostly the age, the old people who are between 60-80 years. For example the bridge at Onipanu area of Lagos is so high that even the youths find it difficult climbing the bridge as the steps are not properly separated, you have to rest a bit before you can continue, if youths are having this challenge, imagine someone that is sick and the elderly ones, they will rather prefer crossing the highway which is more dangerous

3. The fear of pickpockets/arm robbers
People have complained about the security issues of these bridges at night, take for example the bridges at CMS, Onipanu, Fadeyi at night, these bridges have become the hiding place for miscreants to steal and rob unsuspecting pedestrians thereby robbing them of their personal items. Many people have been robbed at night due to using these pedestrian bridges, valuables, documents, and many other things have been declared missing as well, nevertheless, this is not the best reason to risk your lives as well.

4. Poor/Aging Bridges
Forget the happenings and the insecurity happening in the nation, Nigerians love life. One of the reasons people abandon the bridge and resort to crossing the highway is due to the rot and neglect of these bridges, take for example the bridges at YabaTech, Jibowu, and St. Agnes, it will take lots of courage or maybe they have to put a gun on your head before you can use these bridges. Most of them are already a death trap for users.

5. The bridges were too high
One of the major complains of the people is the height of the bridges, most bridges were constructed in a manner as if you were going to Mount Zion to see God's face and this has to pose lots of issues to the users. Some ladies find it difficult using the bridges as they complain of back pains especially those on heels. Example of this bridge can be found at Lekki Phase 1, the company that constructed the bridge ought to be flogged.

In as much as these reasons may sound genuine, the safety of our lives remain paramount and remain the key thing, the government that provides these infrastructures made them available for humans and not for cows. Safety of life as life has no duplicate, let's shun cross of high way and let's start to use the pedestrian bridges.

Children's Hospital Unveils Mini-Cars for Patients to Ride to Surgery

Give a child something to play with and he will forget his pains, children are an amazing and wonderful bundle of joy God has given us and so, therefore, they are unique, but when they in pains or in agony, we can't but feel emotional for these little ones. A children's hospital in California decided to add a twist to make life easier and more fun for kids and I was wondering, what if we have this type of treatment in Massey Hospital in Lagos.

A children’s hospital in California has unveiled a special feature to put its young patients at ease as they head into the operating room.

Children at the Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego can now “drive” themselves to their procedures in luxury mini-cars.

The fancy sets of wheels, which are actually operated by a nurse or doctor, are part of a new program designed to relax children before their operations.

“We’re so excited,” said Dr. Daniela Carvalho, the hospital's medical director of surgical services.

“Just the fact that... we’re able to help our children and their families in the operating room relax a little bit more, and actually have fun when they’re going to the operating room, is just tremendous.”

Children can choose from a miniature BMW, Mercedes or Lamborghini, which were donated by the San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Teddy Bear Drive.

So far, the cars have been a big hit, Carvalho said.

“The kids are having fun, the parents are seeing that they’re relaxed and that they’re happy, but for us — I mean, we’re driving the cars, we’re having fun, too, of course,” she said.

Other hospitals have also made similar upgrades to their modes of transportation to take their young patients’ minds off things.

When Tech Meets Fashion: Drones carry Dolce & Dabbana's new handbags down the runway

It was predicted some years ago that there comes a time where little or no human activities will be needed as technology will be used to solve all human needs well, this seems to be the case now as Models and all fashionista need to be on the lookout.

Dolce & Gabbana chose drones over humans to carry its handbags down the runway at the ‘Secrets & Diamonds’ evening wear event during Milan fashion week. A fleet of around 7 hovered along the runway, each one with a Dolce & Gabbana handbag dangling beneath it.

Named ‘Devotion’ and featuring heart-shaped closures, the flying bags made a bit of an impact on the audience, mainly because it meant imposing a strict no wi-fi rule for fear it might interfere with the spectacle. The show kicked off nearly an hour later than scheduled with audience members being asked beforehand.

Once D&G was happy, the drones flew out over the runway with some member of the 600-strong audience impressed by the copters, complete with propeller guards, made their way along the catwalk. meanwhile two presumable crash control members of the team loitered up and down the runway in case something unexpected happened, like some audience member sneakily switching their wi-fi back on creating a transforming the fleet into a flock of wild and threatening weapons… We can confirm this did not happen.
