2nd Niger Bridge: See The New Look As Construction Works Continue (Oct Update) - Photos

The many questions on the lips of many are, will the 2nd Niger Bridge ever come to reality? Are we not been scammed as usual? When are we going to reap the benefit of this government? All these and more questions we come across daily which most times we have no answers for them.

The Second Niger Bridge Project is one project that the Eastern folks look up to with high expectations, many began having a mixed feeling when it was reported that youths in this area shut down the construction site and demanded 10billion naira as compensation from Julius Berger, the company handling the project, well, we have some news for you all.

AutoReportNG promised our readers up to date information about how work is faring at this site, we also promise to give live images, feed and camera view from the site. According to the latest images made available to AutReportNG, we noticed some latest developments and construction, for example, the following were reported at the site...

- Maintaining a temporary dam (against rising water table)
- Offshore pier construction (Axes 210 + 220)
- Installation of scour protection (Axis 250)
- Casting station for incremental launching (West Approach)
- Increased stiffness piers Axis 110 for Incremental launching (West Approach).

We can report that work is ongoing at the site daily as the engineers are working on making sure that they meet up with the target set by the federal government of Nigeria.

The Second Niger Bridge is a key national infrastructure, with immense socio-economic benefits for the contiguous states and indeed the entire nation. It is a project by the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented through the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in collaboration with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority.

Upon completion, the bridge will ease traffic flow, improve road safety, and create greater opportunities for local residents by advancing the commercial viability of the immediate area and regenerating economic life.

The scope of works includes the construction of 1.6 km long bridge, 10.3 km Highway, Owerri interchange and a toll station. On either side of the Bridge are a total of 10km of 6-lane Highway, cutting through Oko Amakom community in Delta and Atani community in Anambra. The bridge is estimated to be completed in 42 months (3 and half years) and so far, 26 months seem gone.

Ekiti Gov, Kayode Fayemi Insepects Ureje Bridge Collapse Site - Photos

Remember we reported about the collapsed bridge in Ekiti? Well, Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday personally inspected the Ureje Bridge collapse site on Ado-Ijan Road.

On the Governor’s entourage were the commissioners for Works, Mr Sola Adebayo, Commissioner for Environment, Mr Gbenga Agbeyo and the Special Adviser on Roads Infrastructure Mr Sunday Adunmo.

The bridge collapsed due to heavy rainfall that caused an erosion in the area. Ekiti State Government has begun immediate palliative efforts within hours of the incident to keep the major link road motorable until the rains subside.

The Governor, through a tweet from his personal handle @kfayemi, had assured the residents that reconstruction would commence once the rains are over noting that the Ado-Ijan road is under federal jurisdiction.

Mooro Bridge: A Look At Kwara's Death Bridge Where Many Crawl To Pass - Photos

When you thought you have seen the weirdest of all roads, you kept seeing more and more till you are dumbfounded and being to ask questions.

This is Moro bridge in Kwara State, you'll cross it on your way from Ilorin, Igbeti/Kishi.  The bridge has come into the spotlight due to the untold hardships people go through on this bridge daily, not only that, its a dangerous place for road users who can only use this road to link to their various destination.

The contractor handling the project has left the site and dump the materials carelessly on the road, for people to pass through this road, they have to line up and crawl like little children else they risk being injured by the irons the contractors abandoned on the road or they fall into the ditch they dug.

According to the images and videos seen online, the situation of things on this road is sorrowful and something urgent needs to be done.

How did Moro Bridge degenerate into this death trap?

According to an investigation made by AutoReportNG, the bridge was collapsed around 2015 and after lots of outcries, the former state governor, Mr Ahmed Fatai decided to repair the road. According to the press release by the Kwara State Government of 8th Nov. 2016, it reads...

Kwara Begins Repair of Collapsed Moro Bridge

Following the release of funds by Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, the repair of the collapsed Moro Bridge on Ilorin-lgbeti highway has begun.

The State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yayaha who made this known in Ilorin, noted that the steel and other materials purchased for the repair have been received.

He also disclosed that the State government had earlier in March this year intervened on the Ohan-bailey Bridge, also in Moro Local Government of the State.

The commissioner explained that although the two bridges are Federal Government facilities, the State Government decided to carry out intervention work on them in order to ease the hardship faced by road users and motorists.

While commending the Federal Government for its interventions on various roads within the State, Alhaji Yayaha urged the central government to reconstruct the two bridges as the lasting solution to preventing their future collapse.

He added that the reconstruction of the bridges will further boost the agricultural activities in the area and the state in general, particularly in easing the transportation of farm produce to commercial destinations.

The questions on our lips are, who is the contractor handling this project? Why did they stop? Did the government pay for this project? Who are those at helms of affairs? Is there follow-up? Why has there not been any tangible thing done after 3 years after this project has been awarded?

Ogun Public Works Agency Assesses Sagamu Roads, To Begin Rehabilitation Soonest

Ogun State seems to be taking a close observation of how Lagos runs its road constructions in the state. The newly established Public Works Agency in Ogun State which is saddled with the maintenance, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of the roads in the State has carried out a thorough assessment of major deplorable roads in Sagamu area of the State.

The team which was led by the head of the Agency, Engr Gbenga Akintola were on the field at the intersection of Ewusi Street to Baruwa road and finally at the hospital road to ascertain the extent of its deplorable conditions.

Hence, the agency will soon commence the maintenance and rehabilitation of 2 roads in Sagamu namely:

A. Baruwa - Bright Fashion Road, Sagamu.

B. Hospital Road, Sagamu.

They enjoined all the motorists to please abide by the traffic management signs that will be placed on the roads.

FRSC Closes Magboro, Kara, Ibafo Axis on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the temporary closure of only the Ibadan-bound carriage way of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway from Magboro to Kara and Ibafo.

Mr Clement Oladele, FRSC Commander in Ogun State, made this known in a statement in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Oladele said that the closure took effect on Wednesday, noting that the road would be reopened on Friday to enable the contracting firm, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, lay asphalt on that section of the road.

“This is to inform the motoring public that Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, currently rehabilitating the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, will be temporarily closing only the Ibadan bound carriageway from Magboro to Kara and Ibafo.

“Is scheduled to commence from Wednesday, May 22, 2019 and reopened on Friday, May 24, 2019.

“The temporary closure is to lay a section of 400m of wearing asphaltic surface on the affected section of the corridor.

“The closure will not affect traffic inbound Lagos around the affected road but will narrow the carriageway which is expected to build up traffic around the mentioned sections,’’ he said.

The sector commander advised motorists to note the occurrence and plan their trips, saying that those using the corridor within the period should obey all traffic rules and regulations.

Oladele urged motorists to refrain from driving against traffic, saying that violators were liable to be apprehended for dangerous driving which attracts a fine of N50,000 and impounding of the erring vehicle.

“The FRSC is working with sister traffic agencies to maintain visibility to ease the traffic discomfort the temporary closure of that section of the corridor will cause,’’ he said.

A member of the ruling party, Jack Obinyan has taken to his page to express joy at the new look of Ore to Ijebu highway. According to him, "This is the current look from Ore to Ijebu-Ode on Benin to Sagamu Federal Highway".

Ore to Ijebu-Ore has been a sort of death trap to all motorists in that area but thankfully, this has been sorted out. See more pictures below.
