Mooro Bridge: A Look At Kwara's Death Bridge Where Many Crawl To Pass - Photos

When you thought you have seen the weirdest of all roads, you kept seeing more and more till you are dumbfounded and being to ask questions.

This is Moro bridge in Kwara State, you'll cross it on your way from Ilorin, Igbeti/Kishi.  The bridge has come into the spotlight due to the untold hardships people go through on this bridge daily, not only that, its a dangerous place for road users who can only use this road to link to their various destination.

The contractor handling the project has left the site and dump the materials carelessly on the road, for people to pass through this road, they have to line up and crawl like little children else they risk being injured by the irons the contractors abandoned on the road or they fall into the ditch they dug.

According to the images and videos seen online, the situation of things on this road is sorrowful and something urgent needs to be done.

How did Moro Bridge degenerate into this death trap?

According to an investigation made by AutoReportNG, the bridge was collapsed around 2015 and after lots of outcries, the former state governor, Mr Ahmed Fatai decided to repair the road. According to the press release by the Kwara State Government of 8th Nov. 2016, it reads...

Kwara Begins Repair of Collapsed Moro Bridge

Following the release of funds by Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, the repair of the collapsed Moro Bridge on Ilorin-lgbeti highway has begun.

The State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yayaha who made this known in Ilorin, noted that the steel and other materials purchased for the repair have been received.

He also disclosed that the State government had earlier in March this year intervened on the Ohan-bailey Bridge, also in Moro Local Government of the State.

The commissioner explained that although the two bridges are Federal Government facilities, the State Government decided to carry out intervention work on them in order to ease the hardship faced by road users and motorists.

While commending the Federal Government for its interventions on various roads within the State, Alhaji Yayaha urged the central government to reconstruct the two bridges as the lasting solution to preventing their future collapse.

He added that the reconstruction of the bridges will further boost the agricultural activities in the area and the state in general, particularly in easing the transportation of farm produce to commercial destinations.

The questions on our lips are, who is the contractor handling this project? Why did they stop? Did the government pay for this project? Who are those at helms of affairs? Is there follow-up? Why has there not been any tangible thing done after 3 years after this project has been awarded?

See The Moment Kwara State Gov Drove Himself To Venue Of Inauguration In Hilux Bus

The question on the lips of many Kwarans is, is this humility or just a way of showing public humility as this looks strange to all.

 The new executive governor of Kwara State, Mr. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq yesterday dazed many people when he decided to drive himself to the venue of his inauguration in Ilorin, Kwara State on May 29th, 2019. Unlike many who will drive in high powered armored SUV, Mr. Abdulrazaq chose to drive in a white Hilux car, we later got to know that it's armored after all a careful look at the windows and of the car.

While this may look nice and interesting, the question is, for how long will the governor continue in this feat, after all the elders say, it's not about the starting that counts but how well you finish it.

This is not the first time we are seeing an executive governor who chose to drive himself, for example when the governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello first assumed he chose to drive himself right from mosque to his house and the lists are endless.

Lai Mohammed Inspects Ongoing Road Constructions In Kwara State (Photos)

The Minister of Culture and Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed was in his hometown today, Kwara state and there he inspected some federal projects ongoing around Kwara State University Road, Malete.The minister and his entourage are at KM 24 to commence inspection of the Rehabilitation of the Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa-BirninGwari-Kaduna road project by Federal Ministry of Power Works and housing. Driver narrowly escapes death as his car skids off bridge and plunged into a river in Kwara

The driver of the car in the river narrowly escaped death after the car he was riding in, skidded off the bridge and plunged into the river in Kwara state yesterday November 5th. Passersby were able to help rescue him from the river. He was thereafter taken to the hospital.

 

Kwara Launches First Phase of Mass Transit Scheme With 10 Buses

THE Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed on Thursday launched the first phase of the State’s Mass Transit Scheme, which is part of government’s effort to ease transportation in the State.

Governor Ahmed said that the scheme, tagged, “Maigida Soludero Transit” was designed to ameliorate the suffering of commuters, and would also help develop an intra and inter-city transport system that is more available, affordable and efficient.

Alhaji Ahmed noted that the high capacity Mass Transit buses, upscale the existing transport scheme in the State, which involves Motorcycles, Taxis, and Mini-Buses.

He disclosed that efficient transportation is not only key to public welfare, it is also germane to the economic and social lives of the people as it enhances commerce by making easier transportation of goods.

The Governor, however, noted that the buses would not be managed by government as perceived in some quarters.

He disclosed that the buses were purchased for the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) through a credit facility provided by the State Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Bureau.

According to the Governor, the buses were acquired at the cost of N257 million, inclusive of comprehensive insurance and registration.

Governor Ahmed assured that additional credit facilities will be provided to the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the Association of Independent Marketers (AIT) to acquire buses that will ply other routes within and outside the metropolis.

He noted that the MST Scheme will be supported by Second-Tier Bus Stops as well as this terminus and will be gradually rolled out to other parts of the state in coming months.

While urging the beneficiaries to ensure regular maintenance of the buses and drive safely in the interest of passengers and other road users, Governor Ahmed assured that his administration will sustain its supports for MSME as a tested route to economic growth, jobs, and empowerment.

Earlier, the National President, National Road Transport Workers Association, Alhaji Najimudeen Usman Yasin commend the governor for the effort, saying that the mass transit would go a long way in easing the masses sufferings.

He also assured the government of his people’s support in ensuring huge success of the scheme.

The buses are expected to ply the Post Office-Malete, Post Office- Unilorin, Post Office- UITH and Post Office- Amoyo routes.
