Checkout What Femi Otedola's #5billion Donation To IDPs Could Have Done - Photos

A few days after his 57th birthday, Femi Otedola, Nigerian multibillionaire and businessman, made history by donating N5 billion for the care of children facing extreme challenges as a result of Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.

According to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, this is the largest donation to charity by a single individual in the nation’s history.

The donation was made to Save the Children, the 100-year United Kingdom-based charity, to support its intervention in about 16 states of the federation where the Charity organisation operates in Nigeria, reaching over 23 million children across the country.

Without running a foundation, Otedola is making a strong statement as one of the country’s biggest donors to worthy causes.

His second-biggest donation is his commitment to building and donating a faculty of engineering valued at N2 billion to the Augustine University in his hometown, Epe, Lagos state.

TheCable takes a look at what Otedola could have done with his N5 billion donation — if he was following in the footsteps of an average billionaire.

A LIFETIME OF CHAMPAGNE

How many bottles of Hennessy do you need to buy in a lifetime? 250,000? At one Hennessy per day, Otedola could have used the same money to by at least 684 years of champagne. 684 years is how many lifetimes?

While donating $50,000 to former Super Eagles Coach, Christian Chukwu, Otedola said: “In my circle of friends, many people spend up to N50 million to drink champagne and generally ‘enjoy’ life, but at the end of it all what happens? It passes out of their body as waste. For me, therefore (and I also tell my friends) it is important to use such money to benefit others and put a smile on the faces of as many people as we can.”

If Otedola was to follow his friends, he would still need to host at least 100 lavish parties to spend N5billion on champagne. Therefore, this donation can also be seen as forfeiting 100 lavish parties.

7 VINTAGE YACHTS

According to Boat Internationational, it cost about N255,000,000 to buy a 1976 Ocean Romance Yacht off its vintage collection. With N5 billion, Otedola could have easily bought about 19 of these yachts. But most vintage yachts do not come in as many pairs. So most billionaires have to diversify their collections by buying different brands.

With N5 billion, the Nigerian businessman can buy at least seven of some of the finest yachts in the collection.

92 MERCEDES G-WAGON (2019 EDITION)

The 2019 Mercedes G-Class is the rave in town by some of the richest in Nigeria. It cost between $125,000 to $150,000. With N5 billion at your disposal, you can buy 92 units of this luxury vehicle and perhaps have some change — depending on the model you settle for.

Think of this as a luxurious car business in a Benz-crazed Nigeria, but Otedola will decide that it was better to use these billions for the struggling in society, than serve to the orders of his class of rich businessmen in Nigeria.

7 PRIVATE JETS AND OTHER LUXURIES

In 2017, a famous bank chairman in Nigeria quit his active role in the bank to start a private jet business, which he considered his next challenge. Despite the initial clampdown under President Muhammadu Buhari on some of these luxury items, the business is expected to boast of a good number of jets and so heavy cash flow.

To attempt this business with N5 billion is also a possible way for Otedola to spend his money. Brand new Cirrus Vision Jet costs about N723 million. With N5 billion, Otedola could easily buy seven of these jets.

As a businessman in real estate, the former Forte Oil chairman could easily buy luxury apartments in any part of world, including one of the world’s most expensive cities, New York.

The same money could also buy 39 units of 2019 Rolls Royce, regarded as some of the most expensive luxury cars in the world today. It would be easy to become friends with Elon Musk, the billionaire Tesla CEO, by simply buying 395 units of fully electric 2019 Tesla Model 3, which costs a little over N12 million per unit.

Philanthropy makes up two percent of the United States gross democratic product (GDP). According to Bill Gates, this covers what the government cannot do, and what the private sector is also not doing. He says philanthropy is important to the US economy.

For Nigeria, it remains unknown, how much of the GDP is made up of charitable donations, but with the likes of Otedola in the space, the numbers are definitely growing, and may soon be well-studied and measured in GDP reports.

See The Vintage Car Queen Elizabeth Rode When She Visited Nigeria In 1956 - Photos

Talk about vintage cars, cars that buy some luxury cars then you may likely mention Rolls Royce.

Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is a lover of vintage cars. According to reports, he is said to have vintage cars in his garage to cost about 2 billion naira in value. These sets of cars are passed to him by his father who loves and buys them during his lifetime.

Not many people know that Emir of Kano's 1952 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith is the ONLY Silver Wraith in the world customized with unique elliptical, grasshopper eye-like headlamps with dual beam reflectors. An account has it that three of them (for Sultan of Sokoto and Emirs of Kano and Katsina) were bought by the Native Authority for Queen Elizabeth's 1956 visit to Nigeria.

This customized edition, which is the only surviving one among the said three, was sent to Kano for the Queen's visit. After the Queen's visit, the car was added to the fleet of the then emir, Muhammadu Sanusi (the grandfather of the present emir). In a strange twist, the car was seized from the emirate fleet and taken to Government House after deposition of the emir in April 1963.

Military governors of Kano State, CP Audu Bako and Col. Sani Bello as well as the first civilian governor of the state, Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi, all used the car during ceremonies. When Sabo Bakinzuwo was elected governor in 1983, he returned the car to the emirate, arguing that the car suited the Royals more than the politicians.

In 2005, during the reign of Emir Ado Bayero, the car was air-freighted to England and fully restored at the cost of 50,000 pounds.

A look at the engine shows that it has a straight six-cylinder postwar engine, which had been briefly made for the aborted by war Bentley Mark V, replaced conventional overhead valve gear with an F-head configuration of overhead inlet valves and side exhaust valves and reshaped combustion chambers. There were new main and big-end bearings and a more efficient drive to the timing gear. To this prewar mix, Rolls-Royce added chromed bores.

Initially, this engine retained the Mark V's capacity of 4,257 cc (259.8 cu in) increased from 1951 to 4,566 cc (278.6 cu in) and in 1955, after the introduction of the (standard wheelbase) Silver Cloud, to 4,887 cc (298.2 cu in) for the remaining Silver Wraiths. It has a capacity of 4,566 cc; from 1954 bore x stroke 95.25 x 114.3 mm (3 3/4 x 4 1/2 in), capacity 4,887 cc); cast iron cylinder block, aluminium alloy cylinder head, Stromberg carburettor (from 1951 Zenith carburettor, from 1956 twin SU carburettors); single dry plate clutch; 4-speed gearbox (from 1952 4-speed automatic gearbox optional), hypoid bevel final drive, independent front suspension with coil springs, semi-elliptic springs rear; drum brakes servo-assisted; wheelbase 3,225.8 mm (127 in)(from 1951 wheelbase 3,378.2 mm (133 in); tyre size 6.50 x 17 (from 1951 tyre size 6.50 x 16, for export cars tyre size 7.50 x 16 optional, for long wheelbase cars standard).

Princess Diana's Armored 1987 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Sold for 16.2million naira

The Royal Palace has finally decided to sell the 1987 Rolls Royce Silver of which late Princess Diana official car.

The Silver Spur was ordered by the U.K. Foreign Office for exclusive use at its Embassy in Washington, D.C. While it is impressive on its own, the car's real claim to fame is its association with the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Used by the princess on her official 1990 visit to the United States, the car was featured in numerous photographs including her appearance at the Royal Gala Evening to benefit the London City Ballet in Washington, D.C., and a visit to Grandma’s House, a Washington, D.C., home for HIV-positive children, on October 4 and 5 respectively. Still married to Prince Charles at the time, she appeared in her then official royal capacity as Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales.

A long-wheelbase variant of the Silver Spirit, this Silver Spur was armored by coachbuilder specialist MacNeillie & Son of Walsall, England, before being shipped to the United States. Reinforcements include carbon-steel and Kevlar plates, extra door and hinge reinforcement, and polycarbonate windows in place of the original glass units. (The tinting on the rear windows appears to be crumbling and will need to be removed in the future.) The car also rather curiously includes a sunroof, presumably to facilitate the brandishing of a Walther PPK by a member of Her Majesty's Secret Service should disorder arise.

Currently showing 61,000 miles, the car was ordered with Motorola car phones—one in the front passenger-side left armrest and the other in the rear center armrest—cutting-edge stuff for 1987. One of the neatest features is the two-way intercom system with a handheld microphone located in the glovebox that can broadcast outside the vehicle via a speaker mounted to the underbody. You can see it in action in the video below.

Rolls Royce Goes Into Flying Taxis, To Be Ready By 2019 For Testing

Whenever the name Rolls Royce is mentioned, it comes with class, wealth and royalty. The company seems to be diversifying into flying taxis. Remember the likes of Telsa, Uber, Airbus and some other auto firm are already in this race, so Rolls Royce has joined the bandwagon.

Rolls-Royce has revealed more details around its plans to launch a five-seater flying taxi and confirmed that a prototype vehicle will take to the skies next year.

The timeline for the launch was announced during a keynote presentation at the Farnborough Airshow, in Hampshire.

Rolls-Royce expects the taxi to be operational within the next three to five years.

The aerospace company has purportedly ploughed millions into the development of the vehicle, which has cost Rolls-Royce in the 'single-digit millions of pounds'.

The hybrid-electric vehicle will be capable of both vertical take-off and landing, bypassing the need for a runway.

Rolls-Royce says its plane will transport five passengers at speeds of up to 250mph (402 km/h) with a maximum range of 500 miles (800 km).

The Rolls-Royce presentation allowed the world-leading engineering company to divulge more details on its flying taxi concept, which it teased ahead of the keynote.

Rolls-Royce believes flying taxis will revolutionize the way people travel.

Speaking during the keynote, head of Rolls-Royce's electrical team, Rob Watson said: 'In this market, you will see something like this flying within three to five years, and we will demonstrate the system in two years.

Once it has reached the right altitude, the propellers on the wing can be folded away, reducing drag and cabin noise, with the craft relying upon the two rear propellers for thrust, Rolls-Royce claims.

Rolls-Royce says its flying taxi will be able to make use of pre-existing infrastructures, such as heliports on-top of buildings and airports.

'Building on our existing expertise in electric technologies and aviation, Rolls-Royce is actively exploring a range of possible markets and applications for electric and hybrid electric flight. Rolls-Royce has a strong track record as pioneers in aviation.

'From developing the first turbo-prop and jet engines to creating the world's most efficient large civil aero-engine and vertical take-off and landing solutions, we have a very strong pedigree.

See The 2030 Futuristic Rolls Royce Concept - Yay or Nah?

Futuristic 2030 Rolls Royce Eidolon concept car features unique seating layout to demonstrate how users can drive and interact with the vehicle, thanks to autonomous technology equipped in the car. It’s a design study that was inspired by the luxury brand as most wealthy people love to be seen in large luxury cars even though they have to face city maneuverability issues. This concept car solves the issues with Omni wheel technology, it creases its dimensions without compromising its maneuverability.

Luxury cars usually feature long body which might cause problems when driving in the city. By applying advanced Omni wheel technology, the wheelbase no longer dictates the maneuverability of a car, instead, now the car length determines city friendliness of the car. Turning radius of a standard sedan is around 11m, but with this technology, the radius becomes 0, even 6-meter long vehicle equipped with Omni wheel would be more maneuverable compared to a normal c-segment sedan.

Old E-Class Turned into Rolls-Royce: The Real Story

www.autoreportng.com
Last year, we broke the news that a Kenyan man transforms Mercedes Benz car to a Rolls Royce, well we have done some fact findings and contrary to speculations, this did not happen in Kenyan. We beamed our searchlight and we are able to get some factual proof that happened in Kazakhstan, There was a mechanic or should we say a magician there is versatile in changing the destiny of cars into another model and brand entirely.

As you can tell from the photo gallery below, these tuners spent a lot of time looking at photos of the Phantom they printed on A4 sheets of paper. See more pictures below..
