Checkout The New MAX’s Electric Bikes In Lagos, Becomes First To Use Electric Bikes - Photos

Nigerian motorcycle-hailing company Metro Africa Express (MAX.ng) has built its first electric motorbike in Lagos, Nigeria. The company first announced plans to introduce electric bikes into the market in June after it closed a US$7 million funding round led by Kenyan Novastar Ventures and backed by Japanese manufacturing giant, Yamaha.

“We’re piloting electric motorcycles in partnership with EV manufacturers and working with grid operators across Nigeria to deploy charging stations,” Chief Financial Officer, Bertrand Njoya, told TechCrunch in June.

The Chief Growth Officer, Chinedu Azodoh, reiterated this adding that a key hire had been made to lead the manufacture and deployment of the bikes.

The company is one step closer to its goal with the EV bikes, the MAX E Series 1.

“We’ve figured out a way to convert gas engine bikes to electric bikes. So that’s quite exciting,”

MAX says the electric bikes in the MAX E Series 1 will be much faster (moving at 60km/h), smoother, noiseless and definitely safer for the environment. The company is planning to build 20-30 units locally by the end of the month before scaling manufacturing and deploying for customer use.

Infrastructures like charging stations are also being put in place and will make costs effectively cheaper for drivers than the gas alternatives.

“We are building out an entire system around that,” says Azodoh.

This Wearable "Airbag"​ For The Elderly Could Help Save Their Lives During A Fall

A company in China has designed an inflatable belt that rapidly inflates to protect the person wearing it during a sudden fall to the ground. The belt works similarly to a car's airbag system, making use of a micro-gyroscope that accurately detects the speed and the angle of the fall. A microprocessor then triggers the airbag to inflate within 0.18 seconds.

Created by Suzhou Yidaibao Intelligent Technology, a company with experience in making airbags for cars, the belt is an innovative product aimed specifically for the needs of the rising population of the elderly in China. The country with 1.395 billion people has had a declining population growth with the number of retirees rising fast in recent years.

According to Song Zhangxuan, the deputy manager of the tech company that makes the belt, as reported by Euronews, "there are two main problems" they decided to focus on:


"There are two main problems we focus on," he said. "One is how to judge an older man's posture in real-time, so how to tell when he is about to fall down. The airbag has to pop up before he falls down so he can be protected by the airbag.

"The second is how to deflate the airbag within 0.18 seconds. According to our statistic, an old man falls to the ground in 0.3 seconds, so technically the inflation has to complete in 0.18 seconds."

China's population growth rate continued to slow in 2018, spelling possible trouble ahead as a swelling number of retirees pushes up against a shrinking labour pool. Figures released in January by the National Bureau of Statistics put the population at 1.395 billion in 2018.


Care for the elderly is a rising government concern as the working-age population continues to fall as a percentage of the total.

Song adds: "According to our statistics, China has the biggest elderly population in the world, which is about 200 million. To roughly estimate, if we share 5 percent of the market, that is nearly 10 million, which is a fairly big market for us."

See What This Danfo Driver Used As His Gear Head In Lagos - Photos


When you thought you have seen the weirdest of all innovations in this world, Nigerians kept coming up with theirs. We have seen a series of stuff danfo drivers use in controlling their buses and we seem not to get enough.

A driver is pictured in Lagos using a showerhead as his controlling gear in Lagos. According to the images obtained by AutoReportNG, we noticed that the real gear appears to be broken and very short, the creative driver decided to use the showerhead as a supplement to aide the new gear.

Who says Naija are not innovative?

Toyota Supports Tokyo 2020 with Specially-designed "APM" Mobility Vehicle

In a bid to make 2020 Olympic memorable, fun and exciting, Toyota Motors have partnered with the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Team to make unique shuttle buses during the fiesta.

The automaker unveiled the shuttle bus which will be used at the event and it is called APM (Accessible People Mover), it is an all-electric vehicle it designed especially for next summer's event. The open-air, three-row vehicle can reach speeds of up to 12 mph and accommodate up to five passengers. Each car is powered by lithium-ion batteries and can run 100 kilometers on a single charge. A fleet of 200 APMs will be used to transport people to different competitions and the Olympic Village.


Unsurprisingly, Toyota's APM isn't meant for the masses. The open-air vehicles resemble large golf carts, rather than futuristic vessels of public transportation. There's a good reason why. Toyota intends it to be a "last mile" solution for staff and athletes, as well as visitors with accessibility needs -- such as the disabled, pregnant women, the elderly or families with small children. Each APM can accommodate a wheelchair or a stretcher and includes an access ramp.

This transportation solution will no doubt be vital for disabled athletes and guests.

Toyota is expected to reveal even more innovations ahead of the event, including a flying car that will light up the Olympic torch and robots that can bring food and drinks to guests. The automaker is even planning on building robots that can assist guests in wheelchairs. With any luck, the 2020 Olympic Games will be a demonstration of technology's real-life impacts -- and not just futuristic whimsy.

All Tesla Models Get New Dog and Sentry Modes to Keep Pets Cool and Car Protected

  •  New Dog Mode allows drivers to keep their pets safe in a climate-controlled cabin while they are left in the Tesla—and displays a large notice to passersby that the animals are safe.
  •  New Sentry Mode is a new smart car-alarm system that utilizes the Tesla's exterior cameras to detect potential threats.
  •  Both new features will be delivered to owners via an over-the-air update, with owners of the Model 3 getting it first.
Kudos go out to Tesla today for spending the time to engineer a feature into its lineup of electric cars that could save our furry friends: Dog Mode. The feature allows drivers to keep the cabins of their cars climate controlled to the temperature of their choosing so their pets will remain warm or cool while they run errands.

It also displays a message on the car's large infotainment display to explain to passersby that the car is climate controlled, the owner is nearby, and the pets are safe and comfortable. Tesla released this short video starring two handsome German shepherds to announce the new feature:

The feature is joined today by the announcement of a new Sentry Mode that is intended to reduce theft or damage to the car when it's parked. This feature utilizes the many cameras that dot the exterior of Tesla models to watch for potential threats. Depending on the severity of the threat, the feature can display a warning message on the infotainment display, blast the car's stereo system, alert the owner via the Tesla smartphone app, or activate the car's alarm.

Both of these new features will be rolled out to current owners via an over-the-air software update, with Model 3 vehicles getting it first, then owners of Model S cars and Model X crossovers that were built after August 2017. They will be part of the standard software package for newly purchased Model S, Model X, and Model 3 Teslas.

Mercedes-Benz Vision URBANETIC Is The Car For The Future - Photos


Mercedes-Benz Vision URBANETIC is a revolutionary mobility concept for the future, it is designed way beyond just an autonomous car. This concept vehicle eliminates the need to separate between people moving and goods transport, it can be enabled on-demand, making it sustainable and efficient vehicle platform for both people and goods movement. This system helps to reduce traffic flows to relieve inner-city infra-structures, it contributes to improving the quality of urban life. Car Designer, Bin Sun Outlines An Electric Concept Car Project


Bin Sun, a transportation designer, has designed a vehicle with an intention to build an emotional connection between rider and their electric car. You can read his explanation below.

In the age of electrification, do we still need to keep the structure we have built for gasoline vehicles? How can we visualize the electrification on the design of the car? What may be the new identity feature if there is no grill in the front?

I try to find a new aesthetics for electric vehicles by a balance between automotive aesthetics and product design language and new identity features that can remind people the change of electrification. I did some surface experiments in Photoshop which I found that if I just played with flowing on surfaces I might easily get something too automotive feeling. However, if I started to add graphics and make these graphics have some connection with the surfaces I got something between the automotive aesthetics and product design language that I call it as graphics control form language.

I try to make all the surfaces go into graphics and the graphics look like are controlling the surfaces. And there is a functional reason after each graphic so that to reveal the electrification changes. I try to move the air intake next to the electric motors as they will be set next to wheels instead of keeping a front grill graphic, which can potentially be a new identity feature as well.
