The CEO of Telsa, Elon Musk has tweeted that the Cybertruck design was partly influenced by the Lotus Esprit sportscar that doubled as a submarine in the 1970s James Bond film "The Spy" who loved me. The result is what looks like a low-poly blade runner fantasy.

The battery-powered pickup seats six inside a nearly impenetrable exoskeleton. Tesla says every component is designed for superior strength and endurance, from the ultra-hard 30x cold-rolled stainless steel to the Tesla armour glass. This didn’t stop the windows from shattering during a failed resistance test during the launch.

Tesla plans to offer three variants of the Cybertruck with the cheapest version starting at $39,000. It will feature a single motor and rear-wheel drive, with have a towing capacity of 7,500 pounds and more than 250 miles of range. The middle version will be a dual-motor all-wheel drive, have a towing capacity of more than 10,000 pounds and be able to travel more than 300 miles on a single charge, priced at $49,900.

Finally, a third version boasts three electric motors and all-wheel, a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a battery range of more than 500 miles. This version, known as ‘tri-motor’ is priced at $69,900 and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 6.5 seconds. Tesla says production is expected to begin in late 2021.

Nigerian motorcycle-hailing company Metro Africa Express (MAX.ng) has built its first electric motorbike in Lagos, Nigeria. The company first announced plans to introduce electric bikes into the market in June after it closed a US$7 million funding round led by Kenyan Novastar Ventures and backed by Japanese manufacturing giant, Yamaha.

“We’re piloting electric motorcycles in partnership with EV manufacturers and working with grid operators across Nigeria to deploy charging stations,” Chief Financial Officer, Bertrand Njoya, told TechCrunch in June.

The Chief Growth Officer, Chinedu Azodoh, reiterated this adding that a key hire had been made to lead the manufacture and deployment of the bikes.

The company is one step closer to its goal with the EV bikes, the MAX E Series 1.

“We’ve figured out a way to convert gas engine bikes to electric bikes. So that’s quite exciting,”

MAX says the electric bikes in the MAX E Series 1 will be much faster (moving at 60km/h), smoother, noiseless and definitely safer for the environment. The company is planning to build 20-30 units locally by the end of the month before scaling manufacturing and deploying for customer use.

Infrastructures like charging stations are also being put in place and will make costs effectively cheaper for drivers than the gas alternatives.

“We are building out an entire system around that,” says Azodoh.

Hyundai 45 EV boasts minimalist design, it celebrates clean lines and minimalistic structure just like the original coupe concept. It demonstrates the evolution of Hyundai’s “Sensuous Sportiness” design language. 45 EV features distinctive lattice radiator grille with a kinetic cube lamp design that evokes analogue emotions. It also represents Hyundai’s lighting architecture to the next level, so iconic that you would recognize the vehicle at a distance.

At the bottom of the door, there’s a special garnish that highlights its long-distance battery capability through active LED lights. This way, drivers can intuitively know how much longer they can drive even before they get in the car.

Hyundai imagines that in a self-driven vehicle, the interior would become a unique living space that can be transformed to accommodate a range of passenger lifestyles. This Chinese Luxury Electric SUV Comes With Full Vehicle-To-Everything Communications

Chinese start-up Human Horizons, whose technical team is led by the former boss of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division, has unveiled a radical electric SUV concept called the HiPhi 1.

The machine closely previews the new firm’s first production car, which it says is due on sale within two years.

Human Horizons describes itself as a technology company that's focusing on “smart vehicles, smart transportation and smart cities”. It plans to develop a range of machines for the growing Chinese premium EV market, designed for both private owners and shared use, featuring advanced autonomous systems and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication.

The HiPhi 1 concept is the first car the firm has revealed. Technical development has been led by Mark Stanton, who formerly worked for both Ford and Jaguar Land Rover.

The exterior design has been informed by Chinese tastes, with a tall crossover design and a large, coupé-like glasshouse. Human Horizons says the lack of a combustion engine has allowed the front bulkhead to be pushed much further forward than in a conventional car, with the 5.2-metre overall length – similar to that of a long wheelbase Range Rover – allowing huge interior space.

The car’s structure incorporates both high-strength steel and aluminium, with the battery compartment under the floor. The dashboard is largely formed of display screens, with a digital instrument pack, portrait-orientated touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard and another in front of the passenger for playing media. It also features a camera-based rear-view system, although this isn’t currently legal in China.

While there are no plans to sell the HiPhi 1 outside China in the short term, the firm has global ambitions in the longer term. Pricing is yet to be set, but the HiPhi 1 is likely to be at the higher end of the Chinese EV market. Deliveries are due to being in 2021. Production will take place in a plant – currently being refitted – that was formerly used by Kia’s Chinese joint venture partner.

Honda e’s Dual Touchscreen Dashboard Featured In Video Demonstration

Honda recently posted a new video detailing the dual touchscreen experience in its all-electric Honda e.

Honda stresses that this is the dual touchscreen experience found in the Honda e prototype, though the upcoming production version of the EV is believed to be nearly identical to the prototype.

The brief video shows how a driver can interact with the widescreen, as the second screen is out of reach for the driver. The demonstration shows drag and drop function to customize the experience and folders for various settings.

A driver can choose to move items on the near screen over to the far screen and back again. The video also gives a glimpse of the car’s navigation, voice assistant, how it visualizes the charging progress, and more.

Honda released details about the car’s electric motor earlier this month. In June, Honda released details about the electric car’s battery and platform and mentioned 31,000 have already expressed interest in the EV.

In addition, the steering wheel incorporates additional buttons and switches, while the lower area of the center console holds the HDMI and USB ports together with the power outlets.

Honda is happy to remind us it has already received about 36,000 “expressions of interest” for the all-electric E, which will be unveiled in production guise later this year.

In May, Honda started taking reservations with refundable deposits for the Honda e in select European markets. Made for Europe and Japan, the automaker hasn’t given any indication the Honda e will ever make its way to the US.
