Air Peace Acquires 3 New E195-E2s Embraer Aircraft, Becomes First Airline In Africa To Own Such - PHOTOS

Air Peace, Nigeria and West Africa’s largest airline, has signed a contract with Embraer for three additional E195-E2s, confirming purchase rights from the original contract, signed in April this year. The airline also made its debut appearance at the 2019 Dubai Airshow on Sunday, November 17, 2019.

These new E195-E2s will be included in Embraer’s 2019 fourth-quarter backlog and have a value of USD 212.6 million, based on Embraer’s current list prices.

Set to be the first E-Jets E2 operator in Africa, Air Peace’s firm order, announced in April this year, is now for 13 E195-E2s with 17 purchase rights for the same model. The first delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.

“The E195-E2 is the perfect aircraft to expand our operations in Africa and this new order is a further confirmation of our ‘no-city-left-behind initiative which we shall continue to execute”, said Air Peace Chairman/CEO, Mr Allen Onyema.

He added, “We are receiving impressive data about the aircraft’s economics now that is in revenue service, and this was a driver to place this new firm order with Embraer. We look forward to receiving our first aircraft, which will enhance connectivity in Nigeria and the African region while feeding long-haul flights from our Lagos hub.” from our Lagos hub.”

Air Peace subsidiary, Air Peace Hopper, started operating six ERJ145 jets last year on short thin routes. That experience with Embraer’s products and services, including the pool programme, and the undeniable economic benefits of right-sizing aircraft for the mission, was a key factor in selecting the E2.

Air Peace’s E195-E2s will be configured in a comfortable dual-class arrangement with 124 seats. Air Peace operates more than 20 local, regional, and international routes and has strategic plans to expand those routes.

Its over the news today of how a man tried to hijack an aircraft in Lagos. According to an eyewitness account, the man suddenly appeared from nowhere and tried to force himself into the plane, he then climbed the plane and dropped his bag in the engine which makes the passenger to be in panic mode. The FAAN operatives were able to arrest the man also making sure that the plane was thoroughly checked as they investigate the man.

AzMan Airline, the owner of the plane which was disrupted has released a statement stating the real cause and also assuring passengers of their safety always.

Boeing 737 Max 8: Air Peace Releases Statement

Due to public outcry over Boeing 737 Max 8 and many airlines placing a ban over it, Nigeria's Air Peace placed an order for 10 new Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft in October 2018.

However, due to the recent crash of both Lion Airplane and an Ethiopian Airways plane, some Nigerians have called for a boycott of Air Peace because the two crashes involved Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft.

Air Peace has now clarified that it is yet to take delivery of the aircraft that it ordered because they are still being manufactured in the United States.

Ethiopian Airlines Crashes Few Minutes After Takeoff, 157 Passengers Onboard Dead

The world is mourning right now as an Ethiopian Airplane crashed and killed all its 150 passengers on board. According to AFP, An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 crashed Sunday morning en route from Addis Ababa to Nairobi with 149 passengers and eight crew believed to be on board, Ethiopian Airlines said as Ethiopia’s prime minister offered condolences to passengers’ families.

“We hereby confirm that our scheduled flight ET 302 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi was involved in an accident today,” the airline said in a statement.

“It is believed that there were 149 passengers and eight crew on board the flight but we are currently confirming the details of the passenger manifest for the flight.”

The airline said, “Search and rescue operations are in progress and we have no confirmed information about survivors or any possible casualties.”

The plane took off at 8:38 am (0638 GMT) from Bole International Airport and “lost contact” six minutes later near Bishoftu, a town some 60 kilometres (37 miles) southeast of Addis Ababa by road.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s office tweeted it “Would like to express its deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regularly scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning.”

Ethiopian Airlines said it would send staff to the accident scene to “do everything possible to assist the emergency services.”

It would also set up a passenger information centre and a dedicated telephone number for family and friends of people who may have been on the flight.

The Boeing 737-800MAX is the same type of plane as the Indonesian Lion Air jet that crashed last October, 13 minutes after takeoff from Jakarta, killing all 189 people on board.

The last major accident involving an Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane was a Boeing 737-800 that exploded after taking off from Lebanon in 2010, killing 83 passengers and seven crew.

Circular Runway Allows Planes to Take Off and Land in All Directions

’The endless runway’ is a new airport concept from dutch scientist Henk Hesselink, consisting of a 3.5 KM diameter round runway encircling the terminal building. the circular runway—which allows up to three planes to take off and land at the same time—would take up just a third of the space of a conventional airport. fed up with delayed flights due to wind conditions, Hesselink designed a runway concept that can be used independent of changing wind speed and direction, since there is always a point without a crosswind on the circular track.

Hesselink originally came up with ‘the endless runway’ after watching one too many scary crosswind plane landings on Youtube, and decided to take action to improve the situation. the circular shape of the banked runway would allow it to be used in all wind conditions, by allowing planes to take off and land at any point on the circle. in strong, blowy conditions, aircraft would land at the point where wind was at a minimum. with changing wind direction, the aircraft can move with the wind, preventing bumpy landings and costly operations for changing runway direction. the ring-shaped track also ensures that the planes always have headwind when they need to take off and land.

Alongside improving the flying experience for passengers, Hesselink also believes that making runways ring-shaped can have a positive environmental impact. since planes will not have to compete with strong cross winds, they will burn less fuel in the area around the airfield. planes will be able to fly in from any direction, giving the pilot greater control over where to fly, and where to avoid flying. the increased choice in take-off and landing direction would be a big step in managing air traffic conditions, which are increasing greatly as the airfield sector doubles in size every 15 years.

The circular runway is equivalent in length to three straight airstrips, but Hesselink's team have calculated that it would be able to handle the demands of four normal runways, allowing airports to occupy less land space. ‘the endless runway’ project is supported by the Netherlands aerospace center (NLR), along with DLR Germany and ONERA in France

Traveling by air for the first time? These tips will help you

Are you one of the few Nigerians that are boarding the plane for the first time? Do you know the rules and how things operate at the airport? Do you know that been late for 5 minutes may have your flight canceled and lots more? We bring to you some tips you must know if you are traveling for the first time, especially if you flying domestically. Read below...

1) If you must fly domestically, I recommend just Arik and Aero. Anything else is just too risky for me.

2) Ensure you get to the airport on time. Be there at least an hour before your flight. Domestic flights usually require you to check in before 45 mins to your flight but since this is your first time try to get there earlier than that.

3) On getting to the airport, go straight to the stand for your service provider to verify when check-in would begin for your flight. If you are there an hour before departure, the chances are that they have already begun.

4) Do not forget your means of identification and your booking ref. For online reservations, you can print out your online booking form. These would be needed to secure your boarding pass.

5) Try to travel light, if you must travel with all the bags and baggage in Nigeria, be prepared to pay extra. Hand luggage can be carried aboard the plane.

6) Creams and any liquid substance may not be permitted on board if they are not securely wrapped and sealed. Items like needles or any sharp objects ain't allowed.

7) After getting your boarding pass, go straight to the departure lounge. You can ask the ticketing officer for directions.

8.) Ensure you listen attentively to the announcer in order not to miss when your flight is expected to take off. There are usually two warning calls and the final call for boarding. The announcer would normally call on the airline name and then the Plane number. This is written boldly on your boarding pass.

9) In the plane, an Air hostess would usually guide you to your seat location (though this should be on your boarding pass), how to put on stuff like a seat belt, life jackets, and general safety tips.

10) Always ask questions when in doubt. It would help to be close to someone experienced and boarding the same plane with you. Don't form 'Mr. Know it all'.

11) Remember to relax and enjoy your trip.
