Ondo Government Acquires 200 Buses For Mass Transit - Photos


About 200 fleets of buses have been purchased by the Ondo State Government to kick start a mass transportation scheme named Sunshine Express.

It will be recalled that some years back, the state had operated s similar outfit named, Owena Mass Transit which had gone moribund.

Already, 50 out of the buses have arrived the state in readiness for the commencement of the scheme which will be jointly managed by the State government in partnership with a private organization.

The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Transportation, Mr. Tobi Ogunleye who disclosed this in an interview with The Hope yesterday said the buses will operate in both inter and intra-city transportation.

Ogunleye said the scheme was purposely conceived as one of the government steps employing to generate opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in the state.

He explained that the company will engage over 500 people who will work as clerical officers, drivers and cleaners.


Besides, he noted that the measure was a welfarist oriented programme which was also conceived to make transportation in the state cheaper and easier, thus making life more comfortable for the people.

His words: “We are already putting finishing touches to the scheme as 50 out of the buses have arrived. Others will be brought to the state in a few days to make up the 200 buses that will be plying cities within and outside the state.

“The government will not stop there. We are going to revive the drivers and riders training institute in the state with a motive of training our people both private and government drivers,” he added.

Ogunleye said the training institute is very key to the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s administration at reducing accident on roads in the state and as well put an end to avoidable deaths as a result of auto-crashes.


He noted that the level of reckless among drivers especially those driving bullion vans, government vehicles and some commercial drivers in the state has become a source of worry..

The Special Adviser said the State government will do this in conjunction with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Vehicle Inspection Office in the State (VIO).

He said the state government has also embarked on several innovative projects to modernize the transportation sector in the state such as the provision of Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre in the state capital, Akure.

The project, he said, will soon be replicated in other cities of the state.

The Akeredolu led administration in partnership with MAX OKADA as successfully launched the "SUNSHINESAFEBIKES" initiative.

This was done in the government bid to provide safe, affordable and accessible transportation for the good people of Ondo State.

The MAX OKADA is a motorcycle -Taxi ride-hailing and last-mile delivery app that gives moto-taxi safe a new exciting and comfortable experience.

The app connects with local motorcycles that can weave their way through gridlock, taking then to their respective destination without complications.

The MAX OKADA is expected to generate massive employment opportunities for interested unemployed youths in the state.

Curbing Waste: Akeredolu Receives First Set Of Refurbished Government Vehicles

Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Friday received the first set of refurbished Government Vehicles which were put in good shape by Logistical ideas Limited.

Governor Akeredolu decided to renew numerous broken down and unserviceable vehicles at significantly low costs compared to the acquisition of brand new vehicles.

Following biddings from several organizations, the Akeredolu’s administration brought in Logistical ideas Limited who has now delivered the first set of the renew vehicles with two years warranty.

Presenting the Vehicles to the Governor at the Governor's Office, Alagbaka, Akure, the Chairman, Logistical ideas Limited, Mr.Oluwole Okunnuga said the initiative of the Governor to repair numerous broken down and unserviceable vehicles has helped saved the state's resources and put a stop at wastage.


He said in the next two weeks, his firm will deliver another 30 vehicles and also move at the same pace to be able to cover the time frame with the stipulated number of vehicles.

Mr. Ogunnuga disclosed that the project has also created jobs for artisans in the state as most workers were hired within the state.

Governor Akeredolu who said it's a new dawn in Governance in the state stressed that he decided to put an end to the practice of abandoning serviceable vehicles to buy new ones.

The Governor noted that his administration became creative as a way of finding a solution around the hard economic reality of the state.

Akeredolu who said the vehicles were risen from the dead, attested to the fact that most of the workers at the repair workshop are from within the state.

Ondo State Hosts Auto Rally 2018 And Its With A Bang!

The Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu has been announced by the organizers of the Ondo Auto Rally as the main host of the event billed to touch down at different spots in the state, from Friday, November 16th to Saturday 17th, 2018 at the state capital, Akure.

 According to Olumide Omolade, the coordinator of the 2018 race, the governor is also being prepared to host an exhibition of two-man race that would feature himself and founder of Elizade Nigeria Ltd/Chairman of Toyota Nigeria Ltd, Chief Michael Ade. Ojo (OON).

 The event is sponsored by Toyota Nigeria Ltd, Elizade Nigeria Ltd, SMT Nigeria (Volvo), JAC, Meristem, Eterna Oil, Air Namibia, Pepsi, and ONDIPA. Also in support are Ondo state government, Nigeria Travel week, Smokin Hills Golf Resort, Elizade University, Heritage Hotel, Sunview Hotel, Signatures Club, Template Lounge, Splendor Lounge, FRSC, and NADDC. Most TV Stations are partners to the event.

 Apart from the professional drivers that would be manning a number of race cars that have been scheduled to burn the tracks in Ondo State, the two-man race between the governor and Chief Ade. Ojo is expected to be the key race for the Day 2 of the event.

 Omolade said car lovers from different parts of the country would be converging on Friday, November 16 at the Smokin Hill Golf Course for registration before the off-road race of 4x4 category will be flagged to set the event rolling.

 From the maiden edition’s experience of last year, we have scheduled the off-road race for the first day. So we will be able to manage the time for the other races that are coming at other venues.  For your information, 1.8-liter engine race also known as the Sunshine race will be participating in this year’s event. A lot of entertainment await participants and audience. Also, there is Special Golf Kitty at Smokin Hills, Ilara-Mokin.

 This year’s event is meant to spike local tourism.  We will be employing about 250 people to man the different aspects of the race.

Racers attending the event from Lagos are expected to assemble at the Lagos Ibadan Tollgate in Lagos by 7:00am on Friday, November 16. They would be led by Federal Road Safety Corps officials in a convoy down to Ilara- Mokin where the first leg of the two-day event will take off. The flag off is scheduled to take off at 2:00pm, same day.

The event would be rounded up with drifting/car stunt at the Arcade on Igbatoro road Akure. There would performances by artists, Mizz Kiss, Vermis Bakare, Lala Eleniyan, Fawazzy and others before the presentation of prizes to winners who will cart away prices of over N3 million worth of cash and goods.

Aftermath of Social Media Outburst, Work Begins On Owo-Akungba Road, Ondo State


Early this week, AutoReportNG did a report about the bad state of the Upenme Junction on Owo-Akungba Road In Ondo State. In the report, we reported that the road has become sort of death trap to road users especially cars. Well, we can tell you directly that Ondo State Government do read AutoReportNG as we can confirm that the State Executive Arm has approved immediate repair of the road starting from tomorrow.

According to a tweet by Olatunde Richard, SSA Media to Gov Akeredolu, he said..

This is definitely the power of social media. In as much as we thank the state government for the timely intervention, we want to assure Mr. Richard that we will be watching from close by. We can confirm that truly work has started at Owo /Ikare road as directed by the state governor.

This Road In Upenme Junction on Owo-Akungba Road In Ondo State Can Shallow A Car

This is a major road at Upenme junction on Owo-Akungba Road in Ondo State, Nigeria. The road is said to link to some various part of the state and also serves as an inter-city route. As key as this road is, it has been destroyed due to the fact that no maintenance or repairs have been done on it for years, its more like a death trap for road users, if you have to take your car to pass this route, you have to think twice as even the high duty trucks find it difficult to navigate this terrain.

An appeal is thereby sent to the Executive Gov of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akereledolu and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to please come and validate this road and make condusive for users to use.
