Lexus To Unveil Newly U.S.-Built LY 650 Luxury Yacht

Lexus is venturing out of the world of cars and is about to launch a luxury yacht named the LY 650.

Teased in a press release and a short video, the yacht will be built, sold, and serviced by Marquis Yachts based out of Wisconsin in the United States. Lexus says the LY 650 will pick up from where its 2017 Sport Yacht Concept left off.

A number of renderings of the yacht were released by Lexus last year, revealing that it will have some similarities with the Sport Yacht Concept. However, the LY 650 will be significantly larger, measuring 65 feet compared to the 42-foot concept.

The LY 650 will use a pair of 800 HP IPS engines and have a fuel capacity of 1,000 gallons (3,785 liters) and a water capacity of 225 gallons (852 liters).

Lexus has not said when production of the yacht will commence nor how many units it intends to build and at what price. What has been confirmed is that the first example will make its global debut in the second half of 2019.

The Japanese car manufacturer is far from the only company to go into the world of luxury yachts. In early 2017, Porsche Design unveiled its Dynamiq GTT 115 superyacht worth a cool $13.2 million. That yacht was significantly larger than the Lexus LY 650, though, hence its eye-watering price tag.

Lexus unveils Molten Katana LF-1 and it is breath taking (Photos)

LEXUS is showing off this new flagship concept at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS 2018) in Detroit. The ‘LF-1 limitless’ luxury crossover is a thumbnail for the future of the company. Hands-free steering, LEDs, a ‘4D’ nav-system that anticipates the needs based on past trips and routines, an in-dash monitor, touchpad center console — technologically, the concept is keeping up with its competitors. In terms of design, the LF-1 may be leading the pack.

You’re looking at ‘Molten Katana,’ molten as in liquid metal, Katana as in a fine Japanese sword: the inspirations for the concept’s design. It is as chiseled as it is smooth, fluid, yet aggressive, carefully proportioned with an exaggerated dash-to-axle ratio, athletic in profile, with 22-in wheels and bulging fenders that hide a low-sitting cabin to zen-out in; it’s free like water and powered by a hidden fire.

Around 2025, LEXUS claims that all of their vehicles will be electric, or, at the very least have an electrified option. ‘This is our vision for a new kind of flagship vehicle that embraces crossover capability without giving up the performance and luxury delivered by today’s top sedans,’ said Kevin Hunter, president, CALTY design research. ‘The LF-1 limitless concept incorporates imaginative technology while creating a strong emotional connection by improving the human experience for the driver and passengers.’

Lexus LF-1 Limitless: A striking new crossover concept that redefines the boundaries of luxury

For more than two decades, the Lexus LX has been the automaker’s most premium SUV option within the automaker’s lineup. The LX was partly based on the Toyota Land Cruiser and is a three-row SUV that has a starting price of $89,880 (31.4 million naira). Any serious fan of luxury SUVs would want to get one. But the thing is, we think that Lexus is ready to separate with the 20-year-old platform when it finally introduces their newest range-topping concept at the upcoming 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

Dubbed the LF-1 Limitless Concept, Toyota designed this car in collaboration with CALTY. If you are not aware, it is the same studio that penned the looks of the FT-1 sports car. As mentioned earlier, Lexus’ newest vehicle will be coming to Detroit in just a few weeks from now. We expect it to look a lot different from the LX, based on the teaser we have seen.

The automaker sees the concept as the next genre in luxury crossover vehicles. Furthermore, it is also supposed to “redefine the boundaries of luxury”. We are not surprised that the automaker is sharing very little information when asked about the upcoming concept. One thing we should know is the fact that it adopts similar styling to the rest of the range, which includes a massive spindle grille and a sculpted rear.

Based on the teaser photo, we can tell that it has an interesting tail light design shaped as a wide “U” that meets in the center. It is placed above an illuminated Lexus badge in blue. This makes us wonder whether the LF-1 might actually be some kind of a hybrid. There was also a blue display that we saw in the teaser, which made us think that it might be a dashboard, but it turned out to be a pair of a headrest-integrated entertainment system for the rear passengers.

Let us hope that the LF-1 concept reaches the production line, and when it does, it could be the latest offering in the automaker’s growing SUV range. So far, Lexus has models like the NX, the RX, and the GX, and lastly, they are further planning on adding a smaller UX to replace the gap left by the CT 200h. The new LF-1 could possibly also replace the LX and make a five-crossover lineup of its own.

If you are into this concept, we would suggest that you head over to the Detroit Auto Show on January 8 so you could see the actual model, and get more in-depth specs of this model. You could also stay tuned as we will soon fill you in with the information we will be getting next month.
