Work Resumes At The Abandoned Agege Pen Cinema Bridge - Photos

Just as a Biblical phrase that says "the vision is yet for an appointed time, though it tarries, it will not lie but will surely come to pass". Such can be said for residents of Pen-Cinema in Agege. Pen Cinema road  has been a pain for all road users either you trek or you are driving, this spot will likely make you have some discomfort. The project which was kick-started by former governor, Akinwunmi Ambode was to link Pen Cinema to other places like Iju, Fagba and other roads that are close by, ordinarily, this project ought to have been completed as it is at its 70% completion stage but we are surprised to see it abandoned. 

It will be recalled that on Sunday, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared a state of emergency on all Lagos roads, this according to him is necessary and timely as the roads are bads and people are going through tough times.

HiTech Construction has commenced work and do hope it will completed on time and this time commissioned to the public.

Commercial Tricyclist Killed Over Right Of Way In Lagos

The police in Lagos say a tricycle operator, Aniete Bassey, has allegedly been killed by a motorist over right of way in Surulere area of the state. Spokesman for the police in the state DSP Bala Elkana confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, saying that it happened on Sunday along Akerele Street, off Falolu, Surulere.

Elkana said at about 9.130pm on Sunday, Surulere police station received a distress call from Randle Hospital Surulere that a tricycle operator was brought there with a broken head, in a pool of blood but died on arrival.

He said information gathered by homicide detectives revealed that the deceased had a misunderstanding with a man in a jeep on a major road along Akerele Street, Surulere.

According to Elkana, during the scuffle, the driver of the Jeep brought out a wheel spanner and hit the deceased person twice on the head. He said that after a thorough examination of available traces, the Jeep driver was identified as Christian Innocent, 39 years old. “He was arrested by a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer Surulere, CSP Jimoh Jabaje on Aug. 22.

He confessed to have engaged the deceased person in a fight over right of way. (NAN) “He confessed that there was a vulgar abuse between him and the tricyclist over who among them had the right of way as they both accused each other of rough driving.

“There was no crash between the Jeep and the Tricycle. The suspect will be charged to court,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu Inspects Various Construction Sites In Agege, Pen Cinema and Ikorodu - Photos

The Lagos State Governor and his deputy, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Hamzat this morning paid an unscheduled visit at some various sites where the Lagos State Public Works are doing some palliative work across the state.

Part of the areas they visited is the Ikorodu area where they met with men of the LSPWC who are working on roads and they asked him a series of questions on the durability of the road construction.

The governor also went on an inspection tour of the ongoing maintenance/rehabilitation works on the Agege-Pen cinema road. In the past couple of weeks, intensive works have started on several roads across the metropolis by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation. Sanwo-Olu said that construction would also resume on the abandoned Pen cinema bridge, as the contractor is being remobilized back to the site.

Agege LG Launches Free Shuttle Buses For School Pupils - Photos

Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State on Monday morning launched free shuttle buses for pupils of public primary and secondary schools in the locality. Twenty-six primary schools and nine secondary schools are in the area with a total number of about thirteen thousand pupils. 

The 30-seater branded coaster buses, which have “Free School Bus” inscribed on it, would operate during weekday except holidays conveying pupils of public schools within the local government to and fro.

The shuttle buses would pick up pupils between 6.00am-8.00am at designated areas including Agbotikuyo Bus Stop, Pen Cinema, Capitol, and Ogba-Ashade and drop them off at the same locations between 2.30pm and 5.00pm. 

At the flag-off, the executive chairman of the council, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, who was behind one of the buses’ wheels from Agbotikuyo where he picked up pupils at 7.00am, drove through Dopemu, Awosoga and Iloro.

Speaking to newsmen at Diary Farm Primary School where some of his passengers alighted, the Council chief explained that the scheme is a social intervention programme aimed at ameliorating the sufferings of indigent families that are not in short supply in the area.

“It is a daily struggle for most parents and guardians in Agege to meet their responsibilities to their children and wards and as government we are disturbed and concerned.

“The council under my watch, equally recognised the strong nexus between poverty and crime and susceptibility of children to peer pressure particularly in our community where cultism is on the rise. We hope this programmes can equally help in our renewed war against the menace of the Awawa cult group. We think this way, we would be able to limit the period our pupils are in the care of nobody and vulnerable to the influence of bad kids,” he said. 

Egunjobi added that the scheme would reduce incessant risks faced daily by pupils, who ride on motorcycles to schools and return homes by the same means, saying efforts are in place to make the free shuttle service has legislative backing and ensure it outlived his administration.

According to him: “As we speak, the council executive sponsored a bill tagged: “Agege Free School Bus Shuttle” which is before our legislative arm. We want to legitimise the scheme and ensure its sustainability. In the bill, we recommended that at every time there must be a minimum of five operational vehicles for the scheme. We are starting with two and hopefully before the end of this year, we will increase the fleet. ”

Speaking, Chairman, Agege Community Development Committee, Bishop Julius Olusanya, lauded the scheme and heaped praise on the Egunjobi led-administration.

“Our joy knows no bounds. We have not witnessed anything of this kind in Agege. This administration of Egunjobi is first in several areas. My prayer is that God will continue to bless the council Chairman and enrich him with knowledge and ideas to take Agege to greater heights.”

In her own remark, Stella Akpan, a pupil of Diary Farm Primary School also eulogized the scheme adding that the current council leadership has been running people centred government.

Her words: “This government has done a lot for us. About five schools were rehabilitated and new classrooms and modern toilets built. The government also gave us uniforms, desks, chairs, exercise books and school bags. We are grateful to the council and the chairman.”

 

Repair Works Begin AT The Agege-Magunro Rail Track - Photos

Aftermath of a nearly fatal accident at the Agege-Magunro rail track which leaves scores injured, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has begun an immediate repair works and changing of all the tracks in that locality. It was reported that a coach or two have been photographed crashing off the track into the neighborhood beside it, with initial reports suggesting that the derailment may have hit a few persons.

We can confirm that the coach has been lifted and men of NRC have begun the reconstruction of the track...

New Pictures of The Agege-Pen Cinema Road Construction

If there is any road that is dear to the heart of the Lagos state governor, then it has to be the Agege-Pen Cinema road. This road cut across from the Mainland to other localities in the state and so the portion of the road is of a great concern to him. Agege shares close boundaries with Abeokuta expressway which links to Ogun state among others.

According to reports, The 1.4km Pen Cinema flyover and bridge ramp will run from Agege down to the Abeokuta Expressway. It is a key intervention strategy by the Ambode administration to address the perennial traffic often associated with the area.
