See The New Mercedes-Benz Concept GLB SUV Unveiled At Auto Shanghai 2019

At Auto Shanghai 2019, Mercedes-Benz debuts a new concept that proposes an alternate idea to the production GLA. Named the ‘concept GLB’, it is introduced as another sporty all-rounder in their compact SUV platform. However, this time, the design focuses on robustness as well as spaciousness with the ability to comfortably accommodate up to seven occupants thanks to a 2829 mm wheelbase.

The Mercedez-Benz ‘concept GLB’ impresses with its clear, surface-accentuated contours that convey a sense of modernity as well as robustness. The front is distinguished with multibeam LED headlamps, a chrome under guard, and short overhangs, which are also present on the rear. The side view is dominated by the functional greenhouse and sensuously contoured shoulders that are enhanced with the rising waistline. Colored in designo cashmere white magno, the exterior features a contrast along with its high-gloss black mounted parts and even the discreet orange highlights in the radiator grille. It is complete with black roof rails that can accommodate LED spotlights and a mounted box.

The spacious, luxurious interior echoes details from the exterior. Orange trim strips complement the chestnut brown Nappa and Nubuk leather seats, fittings, and door panels. The brand’s now renowned open-pored walnut wood trim features on the dashboard and center console. A chiselled honeycomb pattern fades out towards the edges of these elements. An instrument panel below the widescreen cockpit display adds a robust character to the interior as it is milled from aluminum. The design offers a flexible seat arrangement in the second and third row. For the first time in their compact SUV range, the third seat row has two additional single seats that can be recessed flush into the load compartment to increase load capacity.

The concept SUV is powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine combined with a dual clutch transmission. It offers a maximum output of 225 hp and peak torque of 350 nm. The all-wheel system 4MATIC is in permanent use, where its sporty configuration ensures drivers can switch the car’s characteristics as desired. Eco/comfort, sport, and off-road modes can quickly be selected as they change terrains.
